Where to go for a long winter vacation in Florida, Panama City Beach??
My wife and I, both retired, are planning a one-month long WINTER vacation in Florida, bringing our 2 small dogs. We are looking for a place near the beach to relax, with options to take short trips for parks, attractions, etc. Right now we are considering Panama City Beach area. Any comment on PCB, or suggestion for other locations? Thanks.

Panama City is a big Spring Break destination for college kids in March. From what my daughter told me after her trip last spring (age 21, in college), you do not want to be anywhere near where she was in March. But from what I understand, one end of Panama City draws this type of crowd, the other end does not.

I think you would like the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, AL area. The beaches there are among the best in America. I agree with Gail. March will include a lot of spring break folks. Go in January/February. Have a great trip.

I don't think the OP mentioned going in March!!

PCB is a great destination with beautiful beaches and water. Florida panhandle winter weather can be mild and pleasant or ir can drop below freezing and get absolutely wintry. The further south your destination in Florida, the better your chances of fun in the sun. Also, the further south you rent, the higher the prices and occupancy.
Good luck! |
As long as you expect to wear a sweater or a fleece some days and not to swim, you will be happy on that part of the Gulf Coasst or over the line in Alabama. It is heavily visited by Canadians.
Make sure the town you plan to rent in and the property you plan to rent permits dogs on the beach. Not all towns in Florida do, and not all properties will rent to dog owners. |
I am a great fan of Anna Maria Island or Bradenton for lower cost. Laid back, beautiful, not too built up, near Sarasota for cultural events.

Elvin, please quit digging up ancient threads.

Mr. Elvin Dunn above is a realtor who continues to troll for business here by reviving all sorts of threads about Florida and the panhandle.
IMO "Winter at the beach" is NOT what you go to the panhandle for IF you want to go into the water or be assure of NON-"Winter" weather but to each their own and Mr. Dunn. |
