where to go for a great dim sum experience in San Francisco??

seems there are so many recommended places, it is hard to narrow it down! Where can I go for an authentic, friendly, delicious dim sum experience? Thanks so much!

We asked several shopkeepers in Chinatown where they would eat; a very nice lady told us about City Views. She looked up the exact address for us, gave us directions.

It took a little doing, but we found it and we got there just before noon on a weekday. We were seated almost immediately. By the time we left, the line was out the door.

The carts were full, replenished and the food was excellent.

We have eaten there on both of our recent trips to SF.

Ton Kiang on Geary and 23rd Ave. The closer to lunch, the more interesting the dishes.

I second Ton Kiang. I go there with my family when I'm there!

just to update. will write a trip report soon! wound up going to city view for dim sum - thanks debitNM for the suggestion!

it was a tuesday around 1pm. we walked in and were seated right away. the carts came by about ever 5 - 8 minutes or so. everything was fresh and tasty. we had vegetable egg rolls, shanghai dumplings, pot stickers, spinach dumplings, mushroom dumplings, a big plate of shrimp, some kid of fried rice, rice noodles wrapped around beef and tea. I think that's all of it. we were stuffed. cost about $45. it was great that most of the girls let you know what was on the cart and explained it. if they didn't I asked and they were happy to explain. I thought it worked out well for us, as we were dim sum newbies!

Glad it worked out well for you; we have eaten there on both our trips to SF and will do so again on our next trip in January. Not many places get a second visit, much less a third, in a city with so many great restaurants, but City View is really a thumbs up for us.

We liked City View while in SF in March. We did notice that they sat all of the "local people" on one side of the dining and then tourist/non-asian people on the other. They were a little hard to understand when we asked them about what was on the carts. Not sure what all we had, but thought everything was good.
