Where to get really good shave ice on Maui?
 

I was just reading the updates from my Maui Revealed book and saw that Ashley's Yogurt in the Kahana Gateway center is closed. They had the best shave ice. Now I'm not sure where to try. I hate looking forward to shave ice and getting a snow cone. So disappointing! We'll be staying near Lahaina, but will travel for good shave ice.

Well, in my book no shave ice on the island comes close to a shave ice from the Jawz Taco truck at Makena, but that has more to do with the when and why I get that shave ice, and less to do with the actual treat itself. My second choice is the stand at ther Rainbow Mall in Kihei because of the value. I refuse to pay $5 for a shave ice, when in reality most shave ice are equal. Most places uses the same equipment and the same syrup. I have had shave ice that was too coarse, but that was at the booths at community events. If you want ice cream with it, I suggest Roselani ice cream (both Jawz and the Rainbow Mall stand uses Roselani). In Lahaina we often get shave ice from the Lapperts on Front Street.

Local Boy in Kihei in the mall across from the Ka'maole Park/Beach. Shave ice with root beer syrup, ice cream and Kauai cream! Creamy frothy goodness!

My Paradise Family Guide says that W&F Washerette Snack bar at 125 S. Wakea, Kahului has shaved ice. It also says that the Snack Shop at Suda's Store sells saved ice only between 1 and 5pm.

Really, Aj, you need a new guide book! lol

We had that exact thing at Local Boy a few years ago! I think I even described shave ice the way you did in one of my trip reports!
