I've topped a rather lengthy discussion of NY pizza from a few months ago.

John's on Bleecker st. The closest thing to the pizza my father used to make for us.

John's has several locations. The original on Bleecker is probably the best. Although, the one on 44th & 8th isn't bad. Don't bother asking for a slice, pies only.

In Mid-town, for slices, I've always liked Little Italy Pizza (1 on Vanderbilt and 46th, 1 on 46th and 6th) and Pronto Pizza on 42nd and 6th.
Check Grimaldi's in Brooklyn (located almost directly under the brooklyn bridge).

If you're not willing to make the trip to Bklyn, John's is very good, so is Arturo's downtown.

I like Arturos on Houston.

John's is the best- 44th is a nice spacious location, but downtown (Bleecker)is the 'old original.' Same excellent pizza both places. Also i recommend Lombardi's, i think it's on Spring Street.

Sal & Carmine's on Broadway and 101st St.

If you just happen to be downtown in the financial district and want a slice, you might try something a little different. At Wall Street and Front Street (near the Seaport) there will be a large truck called Valducci's. You can't miss it, because you will see about 20 people waiting in line.

The pizza is phenomenal. The cheese is on the bottom and the homemade, fresh tomato sauce and fresh basil is delicious. A little sprinkling of parmesan on top. Love it!

My experience has been that one can purchase excellent pizza on just about any (residential) corner in Manhattan. Seriously. There are about 50 great pizza places within 10 blocks of my Upper East Side apartment. Enjoy what NYC has to offer!
