Where to find t shirts from Barney's and a fake Balenciaga purse?
I like the t shirts at Barney's but I don't want to spend close to $50 for a t shirt. Would I be able to find these on Canal Street? Are they still open during winter and on the weekends? I'd love to find a Balenciaga purse but I just can't afford the real deal so I'd settle for a fake one. Any suggestions on where to shop for a bargain?

You will find very few NY'ers who will help someone find knock offs. They are illegal, harm the honest merchants who have stores, some even pay for terrorism, and are obvious fakes which also says something about the buyer.
We have this argument every once in a while.
Why would you encourage a crime? If you had a copyright, trademark, or patent would you want others to buy goods that are infringe upon your work?
One of my favorite stories occurred about three years ago. A number of tourists were trapped in the basement of a store on Canal Street when the cops busted the owners for selling illegal goods. They were questioned and released.

There is a recent thread here: http://www.fodors.com/community/fodo...-take-1001.cfm which includes a link to an earlier thread.
Knock-offs are illegal and support organized crime and terrorism. If one thinks (and some do, from the responses that you'll always see crop up) that it's just as "wrong" to pay $2,500 for a handbag--well, nobody's forcing you to. But it is legal.
