Where to find good hotel rates for Vegas October 8-10?
 

Looking to book 2 rooms in Vegas for October 8-10 in one of the nicer hotels/casinos. My son has never been to Vegas and I want him to take him to a nice place. I know it's a weekend, but the prices I'm finding are way up there. I keep reading about people getting deals for $75-$100 for the nicer places , but all I'm finding is $250 and way up from there. No "deals" I've come across are valid for the time I need. Does anyone have a suggestion of a website to go to that has good deals for Vegas? Has anyone tried Priceline for Vegas? I'm a little afraid that I would end up with a place way out of the main strip.

Weekends are always higher. Perhaps there is a special event in Vegas when you are wanting to go. A big convention that requires lots of rooms? A big boxing match? Something big at UNLV? You might check the Vegas schedule. Do a google search to see what might be happening then. That, for sure, can make rates go up (even higher than you are seeing).

You could try booking your flight and room together as a package. Southwest usually has package deals and so does Travelocity. This year it is 10/10/10, so that may be one reason. Also, try the direct website for the hotel you want to try. Good Luck!

That happens to be a 3 day weekend, 10/11 being Columbus Day and while many don't get the day off, lots of folks do, so that may account for high prices you are finding.

I will be there a few weeks after you and I signed up for email from all the major places. I keep getting better and better deals. I had booked at Aria and the Wynn for two nights each. Then I received a new email offer from Aria, where they offered a free return ticket to Vegas for the same price as I had previously booked ($183 Sat, $111 Sun). I called them and they cheerfully rebooked with the new promotion. The Wynn then emailed and offered me free buffet tickets for the same price as I previously booked and cheerfully rebooked as well. I'll keep looking at the offers up til the time we actually leave, lol.

Also, if your dates are not locked in stone, the hotel booking calendar will show you the rates for any given month. That's the way to find the cheapest rate on their websites, at least.

October brings a couple of MAJOR conventions to Las Vegas and rates on the strip will be high. You won't find anything close to $75, more like $150.
Best bets are probably the Las Vegas Marriott on convention Center drive at $130, or the new Marriot Resort behind the Planet Hollywood on Harmon at $140. Both are a walk to the strip, two long blocks or so. The Resort might have a shuttle that goes back and forth a few times a day.

My dates are locked in stone - it is at the end of a family vacation that starts with a family wedding. At this point I will be happy to find something for $150! Getting desperate...has anyone used the monorail from places not on the strip? Is that a good option?

Book the Orleans at $125. It's a large, decent hotel and some rooms have a nice view of the strip. They have their free shuttle bus that runs about every half hour back and forth to the strip (its about a 7 minute ride.) If you find something better, you can always cancel the Orleans, and meanwhile you won't be in a panic, you'll know that you at least have SOMETHING to fall back on.

Hate to say it- take what you can get. We had the same problem over Super Bowl weekend last year in Vegas- apparently everyone else was going too. We said forget it. But I've been in situations where it's 'now or never' and PAID. No regrets though.

We are having the same trouble with booking a room in NYC for that weekend. Try that and $150 will sound like a veritable bargain.

A couple of years ago, we stayed at the Microtel. It had just opened and we were very impressed by it. It is not on the strip. However if you have a car and have someone who is not drinking and so can drive, it isn't that far. It is close to the airport and right by the outlet mall. I checked their website and they have a weekend special for $114 plus tax (total of $255 for 2 queen beds).

I think it is more fun to stay right on the strip - but sometimes you do what you gotta do.

Weekends are always pricey in Vegas. You're trying to book a holiday weekend at close to the last minute . . . yes, it's going to cost you.

If you really want to take your son to a "nice place" in Vegas, I would suck it up and take what I could find on the strip -- Bill's, Bally's, Flamingo, Monte Carlo usually offer the best bargains on the strip.

I've used the monorail, but never to an off strip property (I didn't even know it went to off strip properties). The monorail is at the back of the big casinos so it's kind of a PITA but depending on where you are going can be useful.
