Where to find a good German restaurant
I would like to find a good German restaurant that offers not only authentic German food but possibly an entertaining oompah band on weekends. Any place in Indiana would do. Suggestions, please.

Well, there is great German food outside New York and New Jersey -- that's for sure. The first place I think of is Milwaukee.
Why people ignore your Indiana in your post though, I can't imagine, unless they just don't read your whole question.
I'm sure there are some good ones in Indiana considering all the Germans who settled there, but someone else will have to point them out for you.
I did google "best German restaurant in Indiana and came up with this one which looks like a real "hoot" -- perhaps just what you want?

Hallo Berlin over on 10th Ave. They have great German food and beer and it's not very expensive and never crowded. "The Best of the Wurst." and great speitzel.

Maybe what I should have said is that "I" think NYC when talking about German Restaurants.
Why:
Born in NYC
Lived in Middle Village, Maspeth, Ridgewood Queens, many people of German descent settle in that area...thus many great German Restaurants, Pork Stores, Konditori's ........and the biggest and best reason....married a women from the area of Austrian Descent!! Gutes Kuchen!!
BUT....I still think that Hofstra should 'repost' with Indiana in the heading!!

We have been to the Schnitzelbank in Jasper and it does have good food and it is a bit pricey. They have turnipkraut which my husband loves and a great salad bar as well as schnitzels and wursts. We try to hit it for lunch when it is not so busy.
There is also a place in Evansville called the Gerst Haus. It used to be a hardware store and has great atmosphere and great food. But it can be a little noisy and busy.
There are a lot of German people that settled in Southern Indiana.

If you find yourself in Brooklyn,NY...yes there is much to do outside of Manhattan...then check out Radegast Hall and Biergarten on the South Side of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

This just gets funnier and funnier as people post who don't even bother to read the original post. And now with the new headings it even says "Indiana" in bold right above the post.
Can anyone explain why anyone would answer a question without reading the ENTIRE question? It just doesn't make much sense to me. Even if it weren't a matter of the location, there could be an important detail about what they want -- that those not reading the whole question would be foolishly answering incorrectly (like must be open for lunch or after 10 PM, or must have a particular dish.)
But Hofstra, did you ever find your German restaurant in the 7 months that have passed since asking?

Milwaukee has many fine German restuarants. Would be a bit of a ride from Indiana but if you ever get to Milwaukee try one of these. Or try to come for Germanfest some summer.http://www.germanfest.com/
