Where to eat in Carmel?
 

Breakfast, lunch, dinner ideas are all welcomed. All cuisines enjoyed!

We just recently tried the fairly new mediterranean restaurant in Carmel called Dametra. It was excellent----great for lunch or dinner. Also, our favorite Italian restaurant in Carmel is Little Napoli. If you like Chinese food, Tommy's Wok is small and noisy but excellent food. At the mouth of Carmel Valley, Rio Grill is very good CA style food. And in Carmel Valley Village, Cafe Rustica serves very nice Euro style food in a Euro style atmosphere.

Where'd you go for breakfast? I'd like to try afternoon tea at the Cypress Inn too.

Our favorite place for breakfast is Jeffrey's in Mid Carmel Valley near the Safeway. I don't know of any Thai places in Carmel, but there is an excellent one in Monterey called Siamese Bay at 131 Webster st. My wife is a sushi fan and says she has never found any place in the Monterey County area with good sushi. Others may have differing opinions.

Thanks again. I guess I was hoping for recommendations right in the village of Carmel by the Sea, but Siamese Bay in Monterey sounds interesting.

Amazing, isn't it, that there aren't good (I would have assumed great) places so close to the sea! I wonder why not?

Does Passionfish offer good sushi?

Passionfish does not do sushi; Sushi Heaven in Carmel does. I do not purport to be an expert on sushi but I thought it was good. I have friends who like Akaoni--again they are not experts, although they do like sushi a lot. I have found that opinions on what constitutes good sushi can be very varied, so these recommendations are merely suggestions. :) I you are looking for a good seafood place for lunch or dinner, I would also recommend the Sea Harvest Fish Market in Carmel Crossroads--not scenic but very fresh and reasonable seafood.

Katy's for breakfast, Casanova for dinner, the Carmel Cheese shop for picnic lunch goodies and Casanova for dinner. (Yes, only two meals per day necessary...lol)

Thanks everyone. Where do you get a good steak in the area? Would San Francisco be the better place?

Best not to limit yourself to Carmel Village for eating otherwise you will miss out on a lot of great dining experiences.

Makes sense as it's a small village. Is there good steak nearby?

Any ideas for lunch between Carmel and San Simeon?

For lunch between Carmel and San Simeon, a wonderful experience is the outdoor patio of the Ventana Inn restaurant tucked high up into the Big Sur hills with stunning land and ocean views.

Katy's Place is great for breakfast in Carmel, we also like the Jazz Brunch @ Mission Ranch on Sun. For sushi, try Flying Fish Grill in the Plaza or if you can make it out to Roy's in Pebble Beach, they make fantastic sushi there. Your entrance fee to 17 Mile Drive will be re-imbursed with a $25 purchase, try to go at sunset to hear the bagpiper play. We had lunch at Demetra last May, I agree, it was very good. Next time we want to try Fresh Cream and French Poodle for French food. ***kim*** ((#))

Passionfish does incredible fresh seafood really well.
I had sushi at Pacific Edge as an app. at the Hyatt Highlands but I wouldn't consider that a sushi place..its a great place for drinks and app's to watch the sunset.

Another vote for Dametra - but make a reservation! It's a small place and fills up quickly. Food is fantastic.

We had a light late dinner at Clint Eastwood's Hog Breath Inn. Food was okay but the outside patio was a fun setting.

Another vote for Little Napoli in Carmel and the Fish Market at Carmel Crossroads.

This past weekend we were in Carmel, and ate at Little Napoli, Casanova and Jeffrey's. I liked them all though must say Casanova was the stand out, fantastic!
