Where to Eat in Austin? We're here now and are running out of options...
 

Looking for more suggestions on places to eat in Austin. We've already been to Trudy's, Magnolia Cafe, the Salt Lick, and Oasis. Tonight we want to go out downtown (6th Street) so we're looking for restaurant recommendations down there. Thanks!

Shoreline Grill. Next door to the 4 Seasons about 1/2 block off Congress on San Jacinto Blvd. Excellent regional cuisine. Weather's really nice today so the balcony may be open.

Iron Cactus is right on Sixth Street and is not expensive.

I'm a big fan of Enoteca, casual Italian bistro and Vespaio, more upscale sister restaurant on South Congress.

Also, for low-key Mexican food is Guido's on South Congress, too.

My 2 cents- don't leave Austin without going to Stubb's.

emd3, I'm the odd man out on Stubbs. We went to the Sunday Gospel brunch and were disappointed with the food. The gospel was alright but I guess we were expecting something else.

Just curious, but how could you run out of options for places to eat in Austin? I used to live there and there were tons of places to eat (and I'm not talking about national chains, either).

What about Kerby Lane, Hoover's Cooking, Maudie's, Hula Hut (my favorite is the Hawaiian fajitas)?

Of course, those are not downtown. Thai Passion at 620 Congress Ave was good - you might try it.

Have you been to Amy's for ice cream yet?

We're back - we were running out of choices because everyone had just about enough of Tex-Mex and BBQ, but we survived, and it was all pretty good.

Stubb's - good ribs, okay brisket
South Congress Cafe - best meal of the trip
Matt's Famous El Rancho - good green chile enchiladas
Shady Grove - very good chili and good outdoor patio
Magnolia Cafe - just okay - but good prices
Z'Tejas - very nice outdoor seating and happy hour specials
The Salt Lick - excellent brisket and ribs - okay sides
Trudy's - Mexican Martini's

It's not on 6th but a favorite Austin-ish place that I am especially fond of is Austin Java Company. austinjava.com. The original is on Barton Springs Rd. There you will find many Austiny places.

For your next trip - Sunday morning brunch at Santa Rita. Just four words to remember... jalepeno bacon vanilla pancakes!

Another fun spot is the Iguana Grill - it has good Mexican food and a beautiful view of the lake. Pretty similar to The Oasis.

County Line has a nice BBQ spot on the water; lots of swans, turtles, and ducks to feed with that yummy homemade bread. I don't think the food is quite as good as Salt Lick, but the food is still good, and the setting is great, very Texasy.

Chuy's is always good too.

next trip, try:
- La Condesa
- Parkside
- Wink
- enoteca vespaio
- la perla

all are on the $$ or $$$ side but all good (imho)
