Where to eat at the Berkshires?
 

It will be our first time spending a weekend (in two wks) on Rt 8. The purpose of the trip is to take the Mt. Greylock trails.

Any suggestions on where to eat and what to see would greatly be appreciated.

The Old Mill in South Egremont, on Rt 23.
The place is very charming, the setting is lovely, the food is wonderful and I still dream about the Bread Pudding..<i> well, I don't actually dream about it but I wish I could have some....often. :)</i>

lol, mclaurie, that is sweet that you thought of me, but if I start thinking about the idea that someone ate dessert and thought of me, I will feel fat LOL
You were up there for the weekend? How are the colors? We tried so hard to get there this fall, looks like I will have to wait a few months..
Happyme, Great Barrington has one good restaurant after another, I am blank on names right now, but if you google Great Barrington, there is a place that is called Castle Street that is good as well as Verdura..hope this helps :)

Happyme, where are you staying? there are great restaurants in Gt Barrington, but if you are staying up near Mt Greylock, I doubt you are going to want to drive the 40 minutes south to Great Barrington. Unfortunately, I'm not that familiar with the area around Williamstown which will be more convenient. But Lenox and W.Stockbridge are both a bit furthur north. the Church St Cafe in Lenox, or Zinc are both excellent. I really like a little place in West Stockbridge called Oeno.

as for other things to do, there are acouple of nice museums if you get some bad weather. The Clark Institute is a lovely small museum. The Norman Rockwell in Stockbridge is very nice.

Oh, the restaurants in Great Barrington: Verdure which is upscale Italian (Tuscan, I think), Castle Street Cafe for contemporary American. Pearls which is a very nice steakhouse. Bizen for Japanese. I think there are some others, but those are my favorites.

Appreciate all your recommendation, Chinacat! We will be staying in Pittsfield. May consider going to eat at Great Barrington before we head back to NYC. Hope it is close to the outlets, so we can have some shopping as well. Thanks again!

Restaurants we liked:

In the small town of Adams, Miss Adams Diner (old diner car) is great for breakfast.

Likewise, in Bennington, the Blue Benn is a fixture and serves up a great breakfast.

In North Adams, Gramercy and Gideons are good for dinner.

the outlets are in Lee, right off exit 2 of the turnpike. Great Barrington is probably a 15-20 minute drive from there.

I absolutely second the suggestion of the Blue Benn in Bennington. Quirky, completely unique and the food is great. The menu is amazingly diverse.

Verdura has been mentioned in this post as a very good restaurant. It was, but unfortunatly it is no longer in existence. There is still a restaurant at the location, but in my opinion not as good as Verdura, but still nice. I understand it is owned by the same people who own Mezze (?) in Williamstown.
