Where to be Based in the UP?

My wife and I plan to take two grandkids with us on a one week vacation in Michigan's upper peninsula this summer. Our focus will be walking, the pictured rocks, and waterfalls, maybe some mining museums and minerals too. I prefer to not change hotels for such a short trip and would like to find one for a base.
Can anyone tell me if they would recommend Munising or Marquette for that?
PS - No Isle Royale or Lake of the Clouds for us.

Marquette was named one of the Top 12 Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
