If you want to veg out, Hawaii is a pretty good place. You don't have to go anywhere or see anything or do anything to enjoy yourself and feel you've had a real vacation.

You could do Sonoma and stay at the Sonoma Mission Inn and do the full spa treatment thing. Just don't be tempted to go sight seeing.

The Northern California coast from Mendocino to Point Reyes is always one of our favorites. We never tire of that trip.

Two words. Big. Island.

Ideal for passive/active stays - get a hotel or condo on the Kohala coast, splash at Hapuna Beach, day trips south to Kona coffee plantations, visit the Parker Ranch upcountry areas (gorgeous beyond words); head around to Hilo past waterfalls and on to the volcano... great restaurants, funky cafes, lots and lots of variety, all of it low-key and very relaxing. Yikes, where's my flight bag?
