Where The Stars Hang Out - Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles
A little over a week ago, Tracy and I decided to drive the short distance over to the Griffith Observatory on a Sunday morning. For one thing, you can't beat the price...it's free, my favorite price. There's a seven dollar charge for the Planetarium movie, which we thought was worth it. If you are visiting or if you're a local who has kind of forgotten about this gem in our backyard, it is worth the time for a visit. Unless you are really into astronomy, the visit (including a half hour film) should not take much more than a couple of hours out of your day. If you hit a clear day or evening (much better chance now than when I visited there as a kid), the views are pretty spectacular, too.
Here's the link to my little report with photos of our morning at Griffith Observatory. http://www.travelswithmaitaitom.com/...s_Angeles.html ((H)) |
Always good to Stargaze in LA. Thanks, tom.

The observatory is one of those L.A. icons that a lot of people forget about. I used to go there a lot when I was a kid (and if you have kids, I think it's a great place to take them) with the Cub Scouts, so it was nice to revisit it last week. Since it is so close to where I live, I'm going to make an effort to visit on one of the star gazing nights they have. I've still never looked through that giant telescope.

Maitaitom, your report on the Observatory is a reminder to put it on our "must do" list for a future visit. We just spent a few days in the LA area after returning from a month-long trip to AUS/NZ/FIJI. (Report to follow) We're already planning our trip for next year. You are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area! Thanks for the report.

I got to go there as a kid in the early 60's. Thanks for bringing back some memories!

In case you're interested, the new link is now below. Nothing too much new, but you do get a nice glimpse of our Corgis.

We went there in October after I taped Jeopardy, only to find the observatory is closed on Mondays. The views were great, though.
