Where should we stay in Las Vegas!
 

My husband & I are going on our first trip to Las Vegas at the end on Feb./98. We had heard of soooooo many different places and can't decide. We are not gamblers & would like to check out the comedy shows and all the great buffets. We have heard both the Maxim & the Holiday Inn Boardwalk are not bad. We want to get the best deal for out money & save some for the slots. Looking for somewhere nice with a pool & not too pricy.

Check out the MGM grand. I feel that it is one of the best on the strip and the nicest with the largest rooms and nicest pool. Also, check out the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino - the only problem is the Hard Rock is off of the strip four blocks. As they say have a GRAND TIME...

We were in Vegas for the first time in September and took lots of advice from this forum. We found that you could turn up, certainly midweek, and get the greatest prices, Luxor was fine at$49 per nite per room. Excellent value. Best overall hotel was Rio - best free show was Masquerade at Rio! Absolutely amazing, not to be missed. Best Buffet was Rio! probably folowed up by caesars Palace. Best view was 52 nd. floor nit club at.... Rio! I know where I would stay if I were to go back. Hope you enjoy it.

YOU MIGHT TRY HARRAH`S THEY ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STRIP AND THAT TIME OF YEAR YOU SHOULD GET A GOOD ROOM RATE.THEY HAVE REMODLED AND ARE REALLY NICE. ALSO REMEMBER BET THE PASS LINE WITH FULL ODDS.

I'm not sure if any of the pools will be open in Feb. The Flamingo, without a doubt, has a gorgeous pool and great landscaping. The comedy show at Harrah's is very good.

Can anyone comment on Treasure Island and New York, New York. Nice? too pricey? etc.. DANKE!

The Mirage is our favorite--very classy and well-located. Also has a gorgeous landscape (inside and out)Don't miss the Cirque du Soleil show at Treasure Island "Mystere" as it absolutely fabulous. Also, see "EFX" at the MGM Grand--it will blow you away.And don't count on swimming in Las Vegas in February as it isn't very warm then. I'm not even sure the pools are open then and you'll likely be wearing jackets.

All of the hotels mentioned above are fine (MGM is really, really big and can be a hell of a long walk to your room.) Keep checking room rates, like every day for a while and you will find a great deal. But you have to check all the time to get the best rates, they change daily. We usually get rooms at Golden Nugget, Tropicana, Treasure Island, NY NY, etc. for less than $59 a night. Any outdoor pool is going to be closed in Feb. and chances are it will be cool or even cold so check the weather before you go and take sweaters, etc. because the casino are kept cool to keep you awake! If you are staying for more than 2 days you should rent a car. There is a lot to see if you have one (Lake Mead, Valley of Fire, Mt. Charleston) and plenty of parking everywhere. You can get a rental for $25 a day or less sometimes. You can spend that in cab fare daily. Stay off the bus! It's painfully (I mean pulling your hair out)slow. When you leave you'll either hate Vegas or love gambling. Good luck!

Was in Vegas April 97. It was wonderful. I stayed
at the Sahara. The accomodations are nice, but being
on one end of the strip makes it hard to get to the
main areas. I would recommend somewhere in the
middle such as Riviera, Ceasers or Treasure Island.
On the other end are some nice locations such as Luxor
Excalibur, or MGM.
One thing you should do is take a day trip to the
Grand Canyon. By far, this was the best part. It
is a day trip to the West rim. This is an
undisturbed part. There are no gates or fences. To
see the Canyon is fantastic. That is where I want to
go again.
Finally, in the evening, go to the Stratosphere and
go to the observation tower. You get to see all the
lights of Vegas in all its brilliance.

Mirage is the best! Great rooms and beautiful pool - the classiest by far! Treasure Island is fun, but the rooms need rennovating...Rio is cool, but off the strip. MGM is a zoo, but nice rooms and well-located. Golden Nugget is the best one downtown. Hard Rock is nice, but small and off of the strip. Desert Inn just remodeled and is supposed to be very nice. Have a blast!

You will be much happier staying at one of the Strip Hotels from about the middle of the Strip on up to the MGM. Only exception would be Rio which is off Strip but has so much to do right in the Hotel as well as having a shuttle bus to take you to strip (free of charge).
My suggestion would be to call the Las Vegas Advisor (1-800-244-2224) and order a copy of November or December issue ($5.00). This is a monthly publication about happenings in Las Vegas as well as listing 1-800 #'s for all Hotels.
It is true that you might get a very good deal at this time of year at one of the very best Hotels.
Example: Dec.rates at Mirage are $69, Caesor's Palace $79.

Debbie, After many trips to Vegas, we would chose
either Treasure Island or Mirage. Both hotels are
beautiful and have great staffs. MGM is way too big
but is in a good location. Service is very
definately lacking there. Monte Carlo is across the
street and right next to NY Ny. Monte Carlo is a
beautiful hotel but there is also something lacking
there that we can't quite put our finger on. Any
comments from other patrons of Monte Carlo? Go with
Mirage and Treasure Island - you can't go wrong!!!

Our personal preference is the Hard Rock. You must either have a car or be willing to use the free shuttle provided by the hotel to take you over to the strip. Easy, free parking. Much smaller then the strip hotels. About 5 - 7 minutes away by car. WONDERFUL pool - underwater music and a sand bottom. New place, smaller so less smoke and noise. Classy all the way. Only 300 + rooms. The bigger places are pretty impersonal. Also, two good restaurants. Have fun!!!!

As always, ask 10 people and get 10 different answers! I have stayed at NY NY and hated it. The rooms are tiny and service was so-so. I have stayed at Ballys and enjoyed it. My favorite is the Monte Carlo. Why? Not only do I like the hotel and service, but lately they comp me on the penthouse floor. Plus, I've won more money gambling there than most any other hotel in LV. But, I haven't stayed at the Rio or the Mirage, so I can't compare those.
