Where should we go after two nights on Skyline Drive in West Virginia
We're visiting Leesburg (relatives) for 2 nights last weekend of June, followed by 2 nights at the Skyland Resort in Shenandoah Nat'l Park. Would like to then spend 2 nights somewhere in WV, on the way back to NY, maybe near Blacksburg State Park, any suggestions?

Blackwater SP is beautiful, but it's a little far out of your way if you're driving back up to NY from Skyland. Cacapon State Park, Berkeley Springs, Sheperdstown, and Harper's Ferry are all much more convenient to I-81.

If you have the time, stay at the lodge in Blackwater Falls State Park. We've stayed at the lodge there and found it nice, also the restaurant. http://www.blackwaterfalls.com/ There are the scenic falls, and plenty of hiking trails. You might find a B&B in the small towns of Davis or Thomas near Blackwater Falls State Park.
If you are driving from Skyline dr in Shenandoah National Park, to Blackwater Falls State Park, continue south on Skyline drive and take 33 west into West Virginia.
Don't miss Seneca Rocks, WV along the way. Its very pretty. If you like hiking, its a steep 1 mile hike to the top with excellent views. You'll probably see climbers up on the crags. photo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:S...rginia_USA.jpg
Alternatively,
Cacapon State Park also has a lodge.
Brekeley Springs is just down the road from Cacapon State Park. Lodging exists in Berkeley Springs, take a mineral bath while you're there. There are plenty of antique shops if that's your thing.

Thank you for your replies.
I was looking at Blackwater SP, it does look beautiful and B&B's in Davis. Thought we'd do one night in Davis, then one night at the Bavarian Inn, Sheperdstown (we really like German food). And, we do like hiking (not crazy about Antique stores) and good food.
Any more comments? Is the Bavarian Inn worth the stop (it gets mixed reviews on TA).
Where is the Cass Scenic Railway? We do like train trips too.
Thanks again for the recommendations.

Cass Scenic Railway is in Pocahontas County. Green Bank Observatory is also near there. (Green Bank Telescope (GBT), the world's largest fully steerable single aperture antenna).

Blacksburg State Park or Blackwater State Park? I'm not familiar with a Blacksburg SP - would that perhaps be in Virginia?
Blackwater Falls State Park is in the area called Canaan Valley (Tucker County WV). It's my favorite part of the state. For more info goto http://www.canaanvalley.org/. Fodors is a fav travel site but lots more info on Canaan Valley can be found on tripadvisor.com.
Canaan may be out of your way but it is worth checking out the websites.
You are looking at Leesburg to Skyline Drive to Canaan (Blackwater) to Sheperdstown to NY?
Just keep in mind, the roads to Canaan are not 4 lanes and are not even straight 2 lane roads. Sounds like a great road trip but you are going to be doing a lot of driving.

Thanks again for the replies, yet, we are going from Leesburg, VA - Skyline Drive (staying at the Skyland Resort at MM 41.8), then heading over to WV. On Google, it showed now more then 2-3 hours between each location.
On TA I found the Golden Anchor Cabins in the Canaan Valley, any input on those? There's nothing on TV, I think we'll do 2 nights there, then stay somewhere 1/2 way in MD or PA on the way back to NY (Google shows a 6-7 hour drive from Canaan, WV - NY)
Any other advice? Thanks again.

The Golden Anchor Cabins are relatively new. On posts I have read, people seem to like them.
The negative thing about them - they are on a hill along the main road to Canaan. I guess you may get a good view of the valley across the road but the location doesn't impress me. You are not going to just walk outside your door and truly enjoy the beauty of the area or go hiking.
They sit beside the Golden Anchor Restaurant (I don't care for their food. It's been a few years since I have been there - was disappointed in taste of the food each time so haven't gone back).
Cabins/houses in Old Timberline are in awesome settings. Different real estate companies handle rentals in Old Timberline but seems like Timberline Realty may have the most.

In particular, check out Blackwater 15/Alpine Sunrise. It's lot and location are gorgeous. http://www.timberlinerealty.com/ot15.html
Most places to stay in the Canaan area are condos/townhouses or houses and I believe most are rented through the real estate companies in Canaan. You may want to also check out the websites of companies found at http://www.canaanvalley.org/listings...anaan%20Valley
or goto
http://www.canaanvalley.org/ the click on Lodging then click on Canaan Valley.

Thank you again, I've checked out all the lodging option links on the canaanvalley.org web-site, my head is spinning.
Blackwater Falls lodging looks nice, so does Canaan Valley Resort, and they both have cabins. I'd like to be somewhere we can get to dinner easily from (not have to drive), as we like to have a couple of cocktails on a deck before dinner

"dinner easily from (not have to drive), as we like to have a couple of cocktails on a deck before dinner" -- Sounds like Golden Anchor would fit the bill for you. I can't think of another place with cabins within walking distance of a restaurant.
