Where should we go?

My husband and I have 2 weeks the end of January to go someplace. We are mid 30's-40's, very active, and we love to explore new places. We do ski, but we only ski at intermediate level so not really sure we want to spend 2 whole weeks in a cold climate. Any suggestions on places we could go? THANKS!

So,

You've got palm trees, or you can end your skiing mediocrity. Do an eastern skiing trip...spend one week at Sugarbush in a skiing program and become a mogul meister. Then do Stowe, Jay and Killington for food and fun.

gc-been there, done that, but it does sound tempting to do it again. But thanks for the suggestion...

decisions, decisions, decisions.

The problem is (and not to brag), but we've been to quite a few places over the years, and I think we've been spoiled, haha!! That's why we're having such a hard time deciding.
We are kind of looking for something "unique" and "exciting" and someplace where we can explore and not have to spend too much time sitting on a beach, etc. Yes, decisions, decisions, decisions and life is too short to waste on mediocre vacations..
There just has to be a place...hmmmm...

Your question is too broad.

Since you posted on the US board, I assume you want to stay in the US.

You don't want to ski. OK. But what do you want to do? You could go to Arizona, Florida, California, New Mexico, New Orleans...without any idea of what you want out of the vacation, how can we help?

Do you like cities or the countryside? You can explore cities or mountains.

If you've been a lot of places, how can we give an idea of where to go if we don't know where you've been?

Please help us to help you! :)

Hi and I posted it in US board because I thought it would get more exposure. But, we would be willing to travel any place (except Australia due to extremely long flight from NYC). We like to explore, and I don't think we want to do ski trip. We thought of New Mexico, but it's kind of cold in January (40's). We probably are thinking of some place warmer- 70's and above. Don't mind visiting some MAJOR cities in between, but would like some scenery and countrysides as well. Checking into some cruises that are longer than 7 days, but I have a feeling I may be booking a little bit too late to get a decent cabin. Just came back from California in August, and have been to AZ, New Orleans already. Appreciate all your feedbacks...

Since you are not committed to a US trip...

I would think, that with 2 whole weeks, in might be interesting to ski in Europe. European skiing has all those neat historic ski villages, heavy emphasis on apres-ski, and huge ski areas - and, it's about so much more than just the skiing. Additionally, instead of just skiing, you could combine the trip with visiting a major city like Paris, or maybe parts of Italy. Doesn't meet your 'warm' criteria, but surely would be an adventure.

For warm - hmm, maybe try to find some sort of package to Mexico. Warm beaches of course, but I think if you plan it right, there are also all sorts of interesting historical, cultural, and geographical sites to explore. Maybe split your time between 2 different areas of Mexico.

Hi GailK

Try Belize, spend some time inland for jungle, mayan ruins, rivers, and caves. Then head for the coast for sun, sand snorkling. Check the latin american board. Try this link

Have Fun
