where should we go

Looking for a trip my myself, my husband, and a 1 year old. I want beach, pool, warm weather, close to an airport (under 45 min drive), family friendly. Right now I'm looking at Ft. Myers Beach, Clearwater, Myrtle Beach (but only at Kingston Plantation or similar resort). Where would you go if you were me.

Where do you live, when are you going, how long are you staying, approx. expenditure for lodging/day?

mo Jan 5th, 2003 04:52 PM

coming from CT in late April or early May 2003, want to keep the flight time to a minimum which is why we're looking at east coast. we're staying 5-7 days and would like to keep it between 150-200/night (which lrules out sanibel/captiva I think).

If you are traveling in early May, I wouldn't rule out Sanibel. I checked the rates for the two hotels that I'd stayed on my last two trips there and they both have rates in your price range for May 1st and after.
where in sanibel did you look?

Aquila Jan 6th, 2003 09:46 AM

I checked out the West Wind Inn's website, http://www.westwindinn.com
and the Island Inn's website,
http://www.islandinnsanibel.com/

I might add that neither place is a fancy resort. But they suited my needs: clean, comfortable beachfront accomodations with a pool. West Wind has a restaurant on the property but has no room service (fine with me) and Island Inn's restaurant is closed during the non-winter months.

Hope this helps.

Myrtle Beach may still be on the cooler side that time of year. KP would be the choice if that is where you end up. Nice resort. I think Clearwater may also be cool. I would also consider FLL. Airport is close to the beach. Ft. Myers is good for the price range. Not many new places, along that stretch. We stayed at a Best Western. It was o.k. clean, on the beach, all the rooms were Ocean front with a continental breakfast. If the budget permits I would go for Sanibal/Captiva over Ft. Myers.

Why go to a "maybe" resort in terms of weather. Pack the bags and go to Hawaii, specifically Maui. You are with 45 minutes of the airport, will have great weather and a assuredly better time.

thanks to all for suggestions. hawaii is out of the question - i am already concerned about entertaining a one year old for a few hours on a plane. ca't imagine keeping him occupied for the trip to hawaii. too far from CT
Read the entire thread. If Sanibal was questionable due to finances, how would Hawaii work?? DUH!

Vic Jan 6th, 2003 10:41 AM

I think your message would be better recieved if you learned how to spell Sanibel. Duh????

aaa Jan 6th, 2003 10:50 AM

Vic, it's spelled receive, not recieve. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.

That was GREAT "aaa." Vic,-- people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." Ever hear of that one? (smile).
