Where should I move?
 

Hi Ladies and Gents,
(My ex-gf would shrug at me for saying that).

I need some help to identify a place to move to. I am finally departing the Paim Springs, CA Area for something more dynamic. I am a 40 year old single male IT and online marketing project manager looking to establish some new roots outside of California. I've lived in San Diego, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica, and San Francisco. I'm not loaded and just have enough to buy me some time to get contract work or become an employee (yeah right).

My criteria are:

- dynamic business climate with a demand for and a shortage of IT and Online marketing people
- anywhere in the USA
- a social scene for 30-40 single professionals (women don't get older than 39...now you know)
- a good ratio of women to men (I don't work just to sit around and blog)
- access to outdoor activities like biking, fishing, sailing, or lacrosse
- less stuco and more brick, post and beam, wood or stone preferred
- available 1-2 bedroom rental properties
- I prefer all kinds of weather - and like snow - not really an issue

Some considerations are: Chicago, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Boston, and New Hampshire, Austin, Houston

Places I've looked at already and concluded their not a fit: Denver, Seattle

within 2 years almost certainly so might take a flyer there.

The Ladders definitely has more jobs - how many are real vs. scraped off some local site has to be seen. Apple pays little (that's one reason why they are so profitable) and I will be broke before work even became available...You must be in the newspaper business. Boise is beautiful and worth another look. Eugene and Bellingham don't have any professional and/or senior management jobs...You must be in government or economic development hoping to lure some companies there.

No, I was just thinking that since Seattle and Denver don't suit you, perhaps a smaller town would.

You seem to be all over the map with your possibilities. It's a little confusing. I spent most of my working life in New York City, but I always knew I would end up back at my home town, Seattle--and I did.
