Where should I go for my 50th birthday in February?
I will be turning 50 in February. My husband told me to pick a place to go to. I would love to go to Paris or Italy but isn't it too cold there in the winter? Any great United States or Caribbean location and/or resort suggestions if Europe won't work?

Paris is the only cure for turning 50! I went in late November last year for my 50th and it was fabulous. Nobody goes to Paris for the weather and there's no bad weather, just inappropriate clothes (two pithy sayings I picked up on Fodors!) You'll be spending your time in museums and cathedrals, and there's nothing better than snuggling with your honey in a cafe with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee in front of you. It's marvelous anytime of the year (and cheaper too!)

Paris. Go to Paris. My girlfriend opted for a new kitchen for her 50th while we ate the most romantic dinner on Ile de St. Louis. I smile a lot when I think of turning 50 in Paris while she still longs to go. Do Paris and be taken in by the beauty of it all even if it is cold and rainy. You deserve it and there's just no substitute.

"I would love to go to Paris"
THEN GO !! The heck with the weather - weather doesn't affect the museums, the restaurants, that certain 'duende' that Paris has for romance !!
If you really think weather will make a difference for you, and Paris is your dream, is it so bad to go out to dinner at a french restaurant in Feb and enjoy some nice french wine and take the trip a few months later?
I'd go - Paris or Italy - in Feb or a tad later -
hop on over to the Europe board and read some trip reports and see what people have to say

How funny; I just booked my 50th birthday trip for end of March/beginning of April, deciding that my birthday night will be in Paris. I was concerned that it might be cold then, but concluded that we'll "manage" even if it is. We were debating about Italy too, but for some reason Paris just felt right.
Now the question is where to have a 50th birthday dinner!

We went to Paris this past Feb. with my mom for her 50th, and she loved it! It wasn't too cold at all, we actually had great weather. I wore a wool peacoat and scarf everyday, but was always comfortable, I never felt cold walking around. I have been in Feb. several years ago, too, and then all it did was rain. You'll have a fabulous time in the winter! You'll be inside a lot anyways at museums, cafes, churches, etc...GO

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your replys. I have already been to Paris 2 times but I would love to go again to celebrate my 50th birthday. My hubby has never been and when I mentioned going in February he made a face. We'll see what happens!

janiekins, we're booked where we stayed the last two visits, the Hotel Deux-Iles.
We love staying on Iles St. Louis, especially during the week when it's relatively quiet. The hotel is nice, but not a luxury Hotel or anything. Although the price is almost double what it was when we stayed in 2002, with inflation but especially since the Dollar was equal to one Euro back then.

I turned 40 in March. I really wanted to go to Italy, but then pondered Arizona so we'd have warm weather. Eventually I decided on Italy but moved the trip up to May. We had clear blue skies and mid-seventies on every day but one of our 15 days! I do think it made a difference and I'm very happy about my decision. Plus, March was still my actual 40th and we celebrated with friends, alone, and with family. And when that was over, there was no let down because our big Italy trip was just a couple months away. Just a thought...it's not a bad way to do things. That being said, if your trip must be in February and you won't soon get the chance to go to Paris after that, then go! It will still be wonderful.
