Where is your favorite espresso in Manhattan?

I don't like Starbucks and the sandwich places. There are a lot of espresso machines around but the espresso isn't very good. Do you have a favorite place for a really good espresso? I don't care if the place looks nice or has food.

A friend took me to Via Quadronno on my last visit to New York and I fell in love!

I had two cappucinos, they were that divine. And I bought a panettone to take home (it was near Christmas time) that was very good.

So funny because I too was going to say Via Quadronno. It's ridiculously expensive but very good. I think there are probably as good or better options downtown. Abraco, Stumptown, Joe the Art of Coffee are places that get good reviews.

I have heard about Via Quadronno. I am going to be close to there on Sunday (at the Metropolitan Museum) so I will try it. I believe it is owned by the people who own Antica Bottega del Vino in NYC, which began in Verona, Italy.

I am going to be downtown on Saturday, so maybe I can try the other places. Thank you!

I hope I can also find someplace near Bryant Park. I tried Le Pain Quotidien, but it wasn't strong enough for me.

Abraço
(86 East Seventh Street, New York; 212-388-9731)

• Joe
(141 Waverly Place, New York; 212-924-6750; 9 East 13th Street, New York; 212-924-7400; Grand Central Terminal, New York; 212-661-8580)

• Ninth Street Espresso
(700 East Ninth Street, New York; 212-358-9225; 341 East 10th Street, New York; 212-777-3508; 75 Ninth Avenue, in the Chelsea Market; 212-228-2930)

These places always have lines and Ninth Street on Ninth Street is teeny tiny.

For nostalgia's sake I would add Caffe Reggio to your list http://www.cafereggio.com

Okay! Thank you for the added recommendations. I had an espresso at Oren's near the Fashion District and it was the best so far. Hope to try via Quadronno later today.

Aduchamp1 Aug 26th, 2012 07:14 AM

Where else have you tried? And why did you like or dislike them?

stracciatella Aug 26th, 2012 02:14 PM

I tried via Quadronno this afternoon and while my espresso was good, my friend's double espresso was better! (Mine was a little "bruciato").

Maybe I can try Joe tomorrow in Grand Central Station.
