Where is the Rain?!?! I'm ready to spontaneously combust!!!

Oh my.... I feel like I've been living in a sealed oven for the past three days here in NYC!! Ahhh!!! Hopefully, those who don't have to work and have access to public transport or a car and heading to the *free* beaches!!

I hear ya. Here in St. Louis its almost unbearable. The heat is one thing, but its the humidity that seals the deal. We are *supposed* to get thundershowers this afternoon/evening but I'll believe it when I see it.

Try to hang on just a little longer: cooler (though not necessarily damp) air is on the way! Here in Boston, the temperature dropped from 92 to 75 in 3 hours after lunch today.

SuzieTrue Aug 3rd, 2006 12:28 PM

In MI we got rain last night and early today. Temps are in the low 70's instead of the mid-90's.

The skies have darkened and I hear rumbling in the distance...I don't think it will be too much longer, michelle! I've been on my knees praying that the power won't go out!

michelleNYC Aug 3rd, 2006 12:29 PM

Wow Anon... I'll take that as a hopeful sign... If not, I'm heading on the shuttle to Boston.

seetheworld Aug 3rd, 2006 12:29 PM

This is all happening in Westchester, NY -- hopefully heading to the City.

Where are you STW? I'm in Midtown and all I see is bright sunshine! A friend in Murray Hill has been without power since 11:00 this morning.

diann Aug 3rd, 2006 12:38 PM

I am in PHL burbs. I would love to see 70's!! The pool water is not refreshing to warm. Like bath water. The beach water is still to darn cold!! Sitting on a beach with temps in 90's is not fun!! Just stay in the air conditioner works best for me!

seetheworld Aug 3rd, 2006 12:38 PM

I'm near the town of New Castle (Chappaqua area). It's coming!! :)

sistahlou Aug 3rd, 2006 12:41 PM

Amazing, Im 25 miles south of Boston and it's 95 and holding strong!!!

seasweetie Aug 3rd, 2006 12:44 PM

Hang on, Fodorites! We had the HEAT last weekend in Denver and both yesterday and this afternoon it has poured so much we've been considering building an ark - and it's been a delightly 83 the rest of the time. It's coming your way...

seetheworld Aug 3rd, 2006 12:44 PM

Just stuck my head out the door, and it's raining, but still feels like a sauna out there!

michelleNYC Aug 3rd, 2006 12:51 PM

That's amazing that 25 S. of BOS and it's still an inferno. Just spoke to someone in my Boston office and they said that everyone just had to leave the office to *feel* for themselves that it had, in fact, cooled off!

It's on the way and will go on awhile once it gets there.

Yesterday near Chicago, was like you are experiencing today. We had power outages all day because my university has to give power back to Com. Ed. for emergencies. So I sat in the hot dark and outside during the entire. When I got home I got sick and went to sleep early. It does make you sick.

So be careful, go take a cool shower and it will be over soon.

And I honestly can not imagine EVER wanting to move to a hot climate. Give me a snowstorm anyday. We had an immense number of us on TV last night craving winter.

AustinTraveler Aug 3rd, 2006 01:07 PM

What is this rain stuff you all are talking about? Not familiar with it.

I had house guests (from TX) here in DC area last week, dropped them off at Amtrak to go to NYC on Sat. I feel badly for them, hitting the heat wave in NYC. But they are headed for Boston today so thanks for the report that it is cooling off there.

I am glad to be home and not traveling during this heat wave, because I am having to go out and water my plants and flowers twice a day to keep them from croaking.

michelle et al...me too. it's been pretty bad, so uncomfortable. thankfully, we've had electric and a.c. but i'm so over this heat. the other day i took the bus to work (10-15 minutes longer than the subway) because i couldn't bare the thought of going underground again. today is a little better...

JJ5 -- the Tribune did a poll online a couple of days back asking readers what they prefered, 105F or -5, it was running neck and neck when I checked it. Me, I'll take -5 over 105 anyday.
