Where is the mildest August weather in Florida?
 

Are all the beaches just stinking hot with no noticable differences? Or is one part of Florida a LITTLE better than others? We wouldn't notice any difference in South Carolina would we?

The beaches in the Panhandle of Florida (Destin, Ft. Walton Beach, etc..) have their high season in the summer because the winter is too cold.

The beaches in South Florida have their high season in the winter because the summer is too hot and humid.

I think that explains all you need to know. I would stick to Panhandle beaches for the summer or possibly Atlantic beaches as far north as possible.

There's a reason why the high seasons are reversed. Now, that being said, you can get some pretty good deals at hotels in South Florida at this time, and if you like topless sunbathing, great nightlife, or the rich lifestyle, the only place you can really do this is in South Florida.

I don't think there is such a thing as mild Florida weather in August. It's HOT. The Panhandle area is your best bet if you must go to Florida in August.

In the summer,the warmest water temps are in the Gulf of Mexico, so any breeze off the water will be warmest all along the Gulf Coast, including Panhandle. The cooler waters in the summer on the east coast of Florida, along with the prevailing east winds off the water will usually produce the most comfortable beaches. Heat and humidity are similar all over Florida and South Carolina in the summer. The key to the least uncomfortable beaches are breezes off 84-85 deg water, rather than 87-89 deg, or land breezes. Everything helps. Best bets for that would be Daytona to Miami.

Why would you go anywhere in the state if the beaches are "stinking hot".

Actually, as I've written in other threads, it's just a matter of understanding the weather. Even here in South Florida.

Plan on doing your beach stuff between 8AM and noon. There's always a breeze on the ocean so it doesn't feel that hot.

However, don't be fooled by the breeze. Lotion, lotion, lotion!!!! It dangerous to get burnt!!! The sun is very high in the sky and the rays are lethal.

Do your indoor stuff between noon and 4-5 when it's either too hot or raining.

Then by early evening you can be back walking on the beach, shower and eat at an outdoor restaurant either on the beach or down on South Beach.

I agree with xkenx. We prefer the Atlantic beaches in the middle of summer; there are stronger breezes, so it seems not quite as hot.

The sand will be VERY hot, so make sure you have sandals to wear on the beach (and when you take them off, turn them upside down so they won't be scorching hot when you put them back on).

I've gone to Florida beaches during the summer almost every summer of my life. The beach is much cooler than the interior of Florida (like Orlando).

I think the beaches of South Florida are not as humid as inland and no, you would not be better off in South Carolina.

For the entire deep South, expect very hot, very humid, with a chance of thunderstorms daily.
