Go: Actually, South Coast Plaza has valet, as does just about every shopping mall with pretenses to chicdom in southern California.

The Shops at Bal Harbour are wonderful and exclusive, absolutely; SCP is a full-spectrum experience for both rich and poor with a serious shopping jones.

BTW, Go, just got back from South Beach. Got a suite at the Cardozo, we ate at Wish twice (still super-expensive, new executive chef, still unique, exquisite, expensive, staggeringly good food)-- but never made it up to the Ritz-Carlton or over to Azul.... Oh well, it was restful and great. And really, really hot and humid.

Yep, Short Hills Mall has valet parking, right by the entrance to Nieman Marcus aka "Needless Markup"

Who wants to park their Bentley next to a lowly 745 Beemer after all?

tpatricco: don't know if you're a gal or a guy. but if you're a gal, have you ever used their bathrooms? i have never seen stalls that big in any public place and a "living room" in the sitting area of a public bathroom. if that ain't upscale, not sure what is..

'The Westchester' (a Simon mall) has all the same upscale stores as Short Hills and many of the same anchor stores stand alone in the same area. They also provide valet parking, although I have never used it.

As far as Woodbury Commons goes, the best outlet store is the Tommy Bahama store - outfitted hubby very nicely for our Bermuda trip at a fraction of the cost!!

I'm so sick of Tommy Bahama they could give it to my husband and I wouldn't let him wear the stuff.

Walked into a furniture store a little while ago and they had Tommy Bahama furniture! It was very nice but the name is what turned me off.

Yes, very true. My husband has been a big Tommy Bahama fan for at least 10 years.

All the more reason to buy it on the cheap - makes him happy and leaves me with more money to spend on myself...hehehe!

caribtravler, I'm a 33 year old female Interior Designer. I've been in the bathrooms at SHM. Very nice. But just like everywhere else people still manage to splash water all over the counters. What is up with that??

Just got back from California holiday with 16 year old daughter: I saw a lot of malls! I thought the prettiest was the Grove, attached to the original Farmers Market in LA. It's outdoors, has all the designer stores and there's a trolley to take you around. Beautiful restaurant patios to people watch. Hollywood and Highland didn't impress us and what's with all the California Pizza Kitchens? That is not good pizza.
South Coast plaza was our most successful shopping trip, and if we can afford to shop there, I guess it's not that upscale. Also, it is huge, not really the sort of place you want to wander around with no goal in mind. Fashion Island is much more manageable.
Horton's plaza in San Diego was great too. Wow, we did do a lot of shopping!

The Galleria shopping center in Houston is the highest volume ($ per sq ft) retail space in the US. They have a bit of everything, from upscale to the more pedestrian.

Yes Caribtraveler and tpatricco, the Short Hills bathrooms are amazing! The entire mall is such fun - I was just there last weekend. Had an amazing made-to-order lunch at Paparazzi, too.

And regardless if Macy's is or isn't upscale, it *IS* there which is why I mentioned it in my original reply. There are also many other stores that haven't been mentioned, such as DKNY, BeBe and Guess to name a few.

If you are in the Detroit, MI area, Somerset Mall in Troy has Neiman, Saks, Nordstrom, Gucci, Tiffany, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, and many more specialty stores. I like making the hour trip to shop there.

I meant to say made-to-order PASTA lunch at Paparazzi. Amazing made to order pizza too, especially considering it's in a mall!

What about the new Time Warner Center in NYC? Does that count? A collection of some of the priciest and best restaurants in the world piled on top of one another in a mall-like setting.

Or does the Whole Foods in the basement take it out of the running?

Mattydale, haven't tried the restaurants yet but the shopping in the TW building leaves a little to be desired. BTW, love Whole Foods...my 'new' favorite store.

Go, I've been so busy catching up on work I haven't had time.... And besides, it became "romantic down time" instead of "tour the whole Miami area time". Once we saw the two-person soaking tub in the suite, we were lost...! I'll have a few recos in a bit. Forgive me!

If it doesn't have a great, reasonably priced wine store, I won't go near it.
tpatricco,
A Beemer is a motorcycle. BMW autos are Bimmers. Beamers are mostly brain dead drivers who have four or more foward facing white lights on in clear weather conditions in cities and suburbs.
