Chinaman's Hat is Mokolii Island. You can walk out to the island at low tide if the ocean is calm.

Kualoa Regional Park is the best place to view the island.

Kualoa Regional Park is right across the street from Kualoa Ranch (lots of films made there). also only a mile or so past Kualoa Macadamia Nut Farm Outlet.

It is about 4 miles from Kanoehe & Byodo-In Temple.

A few notes about walking out to Chinaman's Hat during low tide:

Make sure it really is low tide, and will remain so long enough for your trip out and back.

Wear protective shoes that can handle being wet (the water level rarely gets much shallower than knee depth) to avoid hurting yourself on sharp rocks and coral.

Once you reach the island stick to the trails - the island is a sanctuary for sea birds so do not approach any bird nests or burrows.

Kids might like using a boogie board to get across the reef - especially if an adult pulls them along.

Please do check the tides. People have been caught in currents of unexpectedly deep waters and died after being swept out to sea.

We make all the weak or non-swimmers wear safety vests.
