Where in the SW in February ??
We live in Victoria BC and would like to do a driving trip to the Southwest in February, hoping to find the sun. This is a part of the world we have never visited so we certainly could use some suggestions. We would like to see the desert and avoid any big cities ( like Phoenix ) We may want to stop in Las Vegas to see a show then head wherever. We may also want to stay in a small resort area for a week. So where should we go to best sample the Southwest ?

Have you thought about Sedona? The red rock there is drop dead gorgeous. And you could stop at the Grand Canyon on the way there.

Tucson has beautiful surrounding countryside for hiking. Probably the warmest day time weather compared to Phoenix or Las Vegas. Definitely a modest drive from your path.
If you haven't seen the Grand Canyon, you have to include in your route. |
You probably can't go wrong with the weather during that time. We've been to Northern AZ. during the winter and the crowds are almost zero. Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Sedona, Jerome and in the south, Tucson(Desert Sonora Museum/Sabino Canyon), San Xavier del Bac. Wickenburg, 45 min. west of Phoenix has a terrific guest dude ranch, Rancho de los Caballeros and Wickenburg is a nice little town. Don't discount Phoenix, plenty to see and do! At the Grand Canyon stay rimside only......Monument Valley, Gouldings Lodge and Canyon de Chelly, Thunderbird Lodge....tours leave from there and though you can drive it yourself, you don't get the info. that the Indian guides provide.
