WHERE IN ORLANDO WOULD 58 YR OLDS STAY?
 

We will be returning from a one week sail in B.V.I. and since our plane arrives in Orlando, we thought we might stay for 4 or 5 days to look around Disneyworld. Where would you stay if you and one other couple wanted to spend a relaxing but fun time in Orlando? We'd want to go to Pleasure Island, one day in Disneyworld and possibly Seaworld and possibly a shopping outlet and golfing, but would like to stay in a place that would be a bit more conducive to adults, if that is at all possible in Disneyworld - don't get me wrong,I'm just a big kid myself but since we don't have children with us, it might be nice to be in a more adult environment (otherwise I'll just miss my grandchildren!)

I'd say the most adult-friendly resorts are the Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Beach Club, and villas. Depending on your dates, double-check on Pleasure Island -- it's closing (permanently) this fall. However, Epcot's World Showcase can double as a fun nightlife spot if you're creative :)

Check out the Swan and Dolphin. They are in the park in the boardwalk area, but are not Disney owned. You still get to use all the Disney transportation and have all the privileges of the Disney owned hotels, but there are far less children there.

Frankly, I wouldn;t stay in DisneyWorld at all. Based on the other things you want to see/do you will have to rent a car anyway. I would stay at one of the more upscale off-site hotels that is more adult-oriented. There are several good ones. We like the Hyatt Grand Cypress since it is a full resort and has a great pool complex. There will be some kids but not the mobs of them you usually get at Disney hotels.

Pleasure Island will be shut down after tomorrow night (9/27).

You might consider the hotels at Universal Studios. I think the Royal Pacific resort would have the fewest kids. You might enjoy the Universal parks, and City Walk (Universal's version of Pleasure Island is a quick stroll or boat ride from their hotels. You would also be closer to SeaWorld and some of the outlet malls.

I've stayed at the Dolphin-lots of kids running around. I'd probably go with the Disney's Boardwalk hotel for fewer kids. It also has an entertainment area geared more towards adults, and has access to Epcot (walking path or boat).

There are also some very nice hotels along International Drive, such as the Peabody and Rosen Centre. Alot depends on your budget and whether you plan to rent a car.

I am 57 and my late husband and I loved the Epcot Resort area. Either the Boardwalk Inn, or the Beach Club/Yacht Club. These resorts are among Disney's best and the Boardwalk area is very nice with shops, restaurants, lounges, etc. You can walk to Epcot and Disney Studios from this area or take a boat. The Swan and Dolphin (which are not Disney owned) are also in this area.

For the most adult environment, I would recommend the Yacht Club (my sister and I are staying there in December).

If you enjoy going to the pool, the pool at the Beach Club/Yacht Club is considered the best on Disney property.

By the way, Pleasure Island is closing this weekend. Disney is changing it up (less clubs, more restaurants and shops, I believe). Won't reopen for a year.

Among the Disney moderate resorts, I really like Coronado Springs and Port Orleans Riverside. PO Riverside has the benefit of boat transportation to Downtown Disney.

If you don't mind staying outside Disneyworld, the Rosen Shingle Creek is a lovely property.
