WHERE IN NEW ENGLAND THIS SUMMER?
 

Each summer I take an &quot;escape from humidity&quot;<BR>trip and since I like history I usually end up in New England. Last year it was Nantucket which instantly became a favorite, but I want to go someplace different. I'll be travelling alone so I like to go places that have a fair amount of things to see/do other than just nice scenery. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,<BR>Jon-Eric - New Orleans.

Definitely the coast of Maine.

Providence or Newport, RI might fit your requirements.

I vote for the coast of Maine, too. Check out some of the local events. We enjoyed the Highland Games in Brunswick one August. There are art museums and transportation museums. Hiking or just finding a good spot and bringing your binnoculars. Lots of people in the busier towns such as Boothbay and Camden or quieter towns further north. A boat ride can be anything from a sea kayak to a ferry over to one of the islands. You can customize your trip to your interests. I've only been to Bar Harbor in Maine and really loved it! Acadia Nat'l Park is beautiful. I went in August for 10 days and the weather was spectacular. It was in the low 80s by day, sunny and dry. You could wear shorts and a sweater at night. I'm not sure if that weather is typical. Maybe I just got lucky. You can hike, bike, kayak or just hang out. Town is very nice. Hope you like lobster.

How about the mountains of New hampshire and Vermont? They offer lots of beautiful scenery, unlimited hiking and walking opportunities, and quaint unspoiled villages. There are plenty of things to do, such as the Mt. Washington train ride, Shelbourne Musuem, Fort Ticonderoga, etc. This part of the country has many small inns, farms and b&amp;bs to stay at.
