where in Maui?

Beginning to plan for my second trip to Hawaii. This time I will be going to Maui after going to Oahu last October.

Which part of Maui should I consider staying in? Will likely be alone, maybe one other person. Have seen much information about Wailea and Kaanapali. Don't want to be too far away from everything, especially alone.

Also considering the condo thing instead of a hotel. Suggestions?

I wrote a trip report last July that covers Wailea vs Kaanapali, and talks about the condo we stayed in, and has lots and lots of details about what we did. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34436140

Let me know if you have any questions!

Awesome post Roxy.

Can't wait to go to Maui next year. Planning to go alone. Planned that last year as well. Ended up having someone join me at the last minute, my mom.

It was a good trip. Considering staying at a Mariott beach club for two nights in Maui to use Reward points. Think that will be in Wailea or Lahaina. Not sure. Want to also stay at another part of the island for a few nights. Trip will likely only be about 6 days. This will include a day trip to Kaui.

What do you think?

I personally LOVE the Kaanapali area of Maui. Stayed 3x in that area. We always stay in a condo property. This way we can fix our meals if we want. I love this area. It's closer to all the activities. Wailea is beautiful too. Less action in that area. The Marriott is in Kaanapali/Lahaina. Perfect location. You'll be close to Whalers Village.

I agree with Roxy that the Kihei Surfside is a great location, I stay across the street at Maui Hill (because I have a timeshare there), but the Surfside gives you that Ocean view for a good price. I like the weather in Kihei and Wailea much drier than the rest of Maui. Roxy gave you some great spots to snorkel, they are some of the best. good Luck.

SOOOO CONFUSED!!!!

So many choices to chose from. Was not this hard when I went to Oahu in October. Stayed in Waikiki for three days and Ihilani for two. Also drove the entire island counterclockwise as suggested.

There seems to be so many varying places to stay in Maui. whew...
