Where in Florida for a winter getaway?

We live in Colorado and would like to go to Florida for 3 or 4 nights in Noveember, January or February for a little break. Something tropical. I am not familiar with Florida at all. We'd like a nice little hotel in a smallish town on the water with a nice pool and lushly landscaped grounds. Probably with some shops nearby. Price range about $150 a night. Suggestions? Thanks!

Try the Keys as it will be the warmest. May not meet your price range but you will be able to swim. Elsewhere, you chance having cool weather,

You might get something like that in November for around your price, but not in January or February (high season.) I agree with tchoiniere that you'd need to go to the Keys then for warmth.

November is a great time to visit Florida. The Tampa-Clearwater area is nice. We also enjoy Cocoa Beach. The Resort on Cocoa Beach is great and you may be able to get it in your price range.

Most prices go up in Mid-December. Around Thanksgiving, is a great time to be in the Keys.

Here in Naples, you can generally expect to pay double in January or February what you would for the same place in November. In fact it's hard to get a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express 14 miles inland by the interstate for $150 in Feburary!

There is little if any difference temperature wise during those months between Key West and the more southern towns of Florida itself --Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Naples, Marco, Ft. Myers, Sanibel.
