Where do you like to stay on Maui?

Want to go there for a few days around fourth of July this summer with two teens; OD is 18 and YS is 13. They have not been to HI before. We are thinking about a few days on Oahu (HHV?) and then four nights ?) on Maui. We think we want a resort for the pool and activities and more kids around to hook up with. Are there any cool condos with cool pools? They would probably be happier in Kaanipali.

Can't stay at the Fairmont or Grand Wailea for $600. Wow, even the Hyatt is up to $500 a day now. It is outrageous.

So the question is, is there a place fun for teens, nice beach and activities, other older kids, nice location, golf nearby, in or very near Kaanipali that is not a dump and not $500 a day? I would appreciate any input on this.

heavens,

You are getting some great responses to these questions on your thread titled "Is it too late to book a week in Hawaii for the summer?" Like I responded there, try Maui Kai and Papakea for Kaanapali.

Isn't the Grand Wailea around $290 a night to start? That seems like it would be the BEST place for kids due to that killer pool.

Well, in July I could only find rates starting at 5 to 600. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I was on the Hawaiian airlines site. HELP!

Well I don't think where I like to stay necessarily answers your many questions since I don't have teenagers to please. Personally I really enjoy staying in Lahaina.

Or better yet on Oahu!... if you're still trying to decide between the two islands.

Well, I did spend a lot of time on tripadvisor today. What an amazing amount of information. It is quite helpful.

Still trying to find a cool place for teen on Oahu OR Maui...

Regarding rates at the Grand Wailea, I would check the hotel's website for rates, as I would the other hotels I was interested in.

We after much research, we made reservations at HHV on Oahu and Maui Kai & Mana Kai on Maui. That will give us a taste of both worlds! We'll be there in July as well...Maybe we'll see you! Look for a couple of old farts in a red convertible! Belle.
