Where do you like to go but wouldn't want to live there?
I just love going to various places, but would not, definitely not like to live there. For example: I love Santa Fe, and lived near there once upon a time, and enjoy visiting, but would hate to live there, because there are too many tourists, people who don't seem 'real' to me...lots of showy people strutting about in phony silver jewelry, boots, expensive designer wear that is supposed to 'simulate' the South west, etc.,..but I remember it from a different time, I guess, when the Indian jewelry was genuine, not made in China, where the streets, at least some of them, were dusty and there was a lazy feel about it that is gone.
Do you have any place that you have a love/hate relationship with?

Probably not the answer you are looking for but I would love to live in Manhattan for a year.
After that I would probably be so glad to leave that I wouldn't look back or so happy that I would never leave - I'm thinking the latter.

clara, could you be mixing apples and and oranges. i wonder if the nostalgia for olden times in your life is what you are really talking about - cause there are huge fakers everywhere you go - not just in santa fe. i used to live in colo and when i return to leadville it just isn't the same. i don't like it as much now and while i could blame the changes, i think it may be more about me. my friends have moved away. business owners have changed. it looks different. < to my eye not necessarily good changes. i suspect those who currently live there see things differently, but will feel the same as i do now, when they return in years to come. i certainly don't hate it now just not thinking of moving back.
from a different perspective i would not mind spending 6+ months in almost any place i've ever visited. one of my favorite things to do on vacation is go to the grocery store. i think it's often the most real "locals" environment a "tourist" can easliy assimilate to.

I live in Central FL and am from MA originally. I love it here and we do have distinct seasons, just not New England change of seasons. I much prefer this to the two weeks I spent in NE a couple weeks ago...a snowy Nor Easter then rain, then up to 80 degrees....all within 2 weeks time in April...gheesh!!!

I would love to go to the Arctic or Antarctica. Yep...I want to see ice bergs, floes, all that stuff I see on the National Geographic programs. Penguins in their natural habitat.
BUT....I sure wouldn't want to live there!
