Where do people from San Diego go on vacation?
 

We will be moving to San Diego towards the end of the year from NJ. Right now, we have NYC 15 minutes from our door, have many Caribbean islands within a short flight (Bermuda is less than a 2 hr flight) and Europe is fairly close. I know we can still travel to all these places, but there must be places that those from San Diego frequent more than say East coasters.

Hawaii & Mexico - easy answer......

We go to Cabo which is a 2 hour flight, Hawaii is about 6 hours direct, Vegas is an hour, Tahiti is 7.5 from LAX, SF is an hour..
Where are you moving to in SD?
I am a native SD and live in La Jolla..
It's a wonderful place to live and if you are from New Jersey, you will have to leave that Jersey attitude in Jersey! ;)

Tahiti, no worries..no Jersey attitude here. I'm orignially from Europe, though I know exactly what you mean :-)

We are looking at La Jolla. We were there last month and looked at several different apartments there. Seems like there is a lot of new construction in the area. Of all the areas, La Jolla appealed to both of us the most.

What kind of running do you do?

You can drive to all the gorgeous national parks and areas in the southwest, Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Death Valley...

Barbara, the only other area we looked at was Mission Valley. It looked ok, but we liked La Jolla much better. It has everything we were looking for. And I'm a distance runner. Was all through high school and just never stopped.

I would like suggest that you don't move to San Diego. I live here and it is much too crowded. Besides it never rains. When it does, as it has for the past three days, people here act as though they have never seen rain before go crazy on the freeways. There are hundreds of accidents when it rains. When it's not raining, which is most of the time, it very is dry, the wind blows and causes everything to catch on fire. We also have earthquakes. Come and visit, but don't move here.

Now if you can convince 10 people to move out of Southern California, to some other state, like New Jersey, then perhaps we could allow you to move here. Might I suggest LA? It's so crowded there, no one will notice a couple of more people.

To answer your question, we vacation in lots of places, but New Jersey isn't one of them.

I used to do all that kind of stuff years ago and some of the best running is along PCH up to Del Mar and also Torrey Pines and through the State Park is lovely to hike too..
Running along LJ Shores on the sand at low tide to the pier and back is always a good work-out..
Lots of friends who do Tri's here and it's the spot for endurance training..

Thanks, Tahiti. I was at La Jolla Shores and saw lots of runners on the sand. Can't wait to join them. If the people of La Jolla are as friendly as you, it will be very nice living there. You're an awesome spokesperson for your city and I see that many have benefited from your advice.

NJrunr3, my son runs sprints - 400m and 400 hurdles. Not the same type of training for sure, although he does run with distance people in the Fall.

Do you run marathons? We have the fabulous Rock 'n Roll Marathon here in June.

I do business in Paris and just love Europe!

I'm from Poland. Paris is one of the cities we'll be in in September for our honeymoon.

Barbara, I don't do marathons. Just run recreationally.

Okay you've gotten great advice from TahitiTams and Barbara. Like they said, we go every place you go, Europe, China, Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, all of the US. For quick weekend trips, Palm Springs, LA, Santa Barbara (you can take the train from SD), SF and Mexico. The great thing if you live in LA Jolla is that the airport is downtown and therefore a quick trip.

Althought my DD goes to school in LJ and we love the area, we also love our neighborhood, Mission Hills. its like a small historical town in the middle of a big city.

There are a lot of great 5ks in the city which I highly reccommend-Father Joe's thanksgiving run, etc. Also there are a lot of running clubs. Road Runner Sports is a popular place for running gear and they would have info on running trails and clubs.

So welcome to San Diego.
