Where do I go for Jazz in San Francisco?
Hello,
My girlfriend and I will be in San Francisco for three nights this month. We would like to go listen to some jazz music one of those nights after dinner. Does anyone have some suggestions? Thanks! |
not exacly in San Francisco, but a couple of very good jazz dinner/clubs are just across the Bay Bridge in Emeryville and in Oakland.
The world famous Yoshi's is in Oakland. The other place would be Kimball's (I have only been to, and familiar with, the one at Emeryville). Depending on the who are scheduled to perform during your visit, here you can hear great music from classical and traditional styles to mainstream and fusion. A quick Google search will get you to their websites. |

Yoshi's in Oakland is great. Go there early. You put your name card on a table and you can leave and come back later. The table will be yours. We left San Francisco for the night and stayed down on the waterfront in Oakland. It is walking distance to Yoshi's from there. Not much else is near Yoshi's, but it is kind of a drive back to San Francisco after a show.

There are quite a few restaurants, pubs near Yoshi's. It is, after all, is quite near Jack London Square.
Also Oakland Chinatown, which some would argue to serve the more tastier and more authentic ones than any Chinese restaurant in San Franciso, is also nearby. Also, Yoshi's is only about 35 minutes drive from San Francisco. |
You might want to try Bistro Yoffi, on Chestnut. You can get jazz both with and after your dinner. www.bistroyoffi.com has a listing of who's playing what when.

For anyone that will be in SF the end of July the North Beach Jazz Festival will be held in North Beach from July 26th to July 30th.
