We're from the east coast and spend each Christmas week exploring Southern California. We try to spend at least 10 days everyMay/June in Europe around Portugal/Spain and we spend our annual long weekend visiting friends in Florida at the end of Feb/begining of March every year. We like sun.

Kiawah, South Carolina in May or September. My husband plans big trips to different locations 3-4 times a year but he knows to always leave me a week in Kiawah, SC in May or September to relax and unwind. No crowds, moderate weather, a beautiful island and the ambiance and wonderful food of Charleston (20 min. north) can't be beat.

We are fortunate enough to be able to do two weeks in Hawaii every year since our Honeymoon. Just celebrated our tenth anniversary. That's 11 years in a row and going strong.

We go to Alaska every summer. There so much to see. Every time we discovered a few new unbelivably marvelous places and we always visit one or two places we already visited.

A week spent wine tasting in Sonoma with a weekend in San Francisco. I could definitely make that an annual event!

Funny that nobody mentioned Santa Fe. The area is so rich in art, ancient ruins, Hispanic culture and the chile!!

No one has mentioned Alberta, Canada - the Lake Louise area. I love going new places, but we have been there three times and plan to go again next year. It is one of the three most beautiful places I have ever been. Especially if you love nature-wildlife, moutains, glaciers. We thought it was prettier than Alaska.

Mountain Lake Hotel in Virginia. ( Not the same as Smith Mountain Lake) Have gone there almost every year for 27 years. The rest of my vacation time, I like to go places that are new to me, but I always manage to spend a few days at Mountain Lake

My dream way to spend the rest of my retirement:

A month is New York every late spring/early summer.
Two weeks in London and two weeks in Paris with a couple more weeks to a month traveling in Europe.
A month in western Los Angeles probably for September.

I've named the four cities I could return to over and over, and stay up to a month at a time without ever getting bored.

Chuck, I'm jealous. Maui is my favorite vacation destination. You must live in California? That's sooo wonderful to be able to go for the last 10 yrs.

Hi Jan, actually we are east coasters..so the trip to Maui is an all day affair but we do love it-so it is worth the trip. Both my wife and I do a lot of international travel for work so we quickly rack up the FF miles from trips and the money spent on them. The 11 trips have all been in first class and all 22 tickets have been "purchased" with miles-over 1.2 million miles used.

Couple that with free nights from hotel programs from our work travel and the vacation becomes pretty cheap! If and when we don't have enough miles-we'll see if the streak continues!
