Where can out of towners obtain tickers to Ground Zero Memorial?

We are 6 people coming to NYC mid-December. We would like to visit the memorial. I have been searching on the internet (without luck) on how to get the tickets to visit the memorial.

How can we reserve tickets ahead of time on the internet or telephone?

We don't want to do an organized tour. Just visit on our own.

PLESE do not say Ground Zero. That phrase is very disrespectful in the eyes of many New Yorkers. You can say 9/11 memorial or World Trade Center Memorial or even Twin Towers Memorial. But it was Ground Zero only to the terroriss.

The link provided by starrs is correct.

I happened to be in the area today and found out that all the passes for September are spoken for. I would expect that a good portion of October's are as well.

Indeed they are, nycguy - I just looked for the dates when I'll be there in mid-October, but nothing is available. Do you all know if there's anything we could visit without the timed entry pass, or if much of the memorial is visible from the street (without being obstructive or disrespectful)? The web site emphasizes the timed passes, obviously, and I didn't see information about anything else, but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I'm disappointed! The CALENDAR on the left hand side shows available days starting the 13th of October but the list on tyhe right hand side will not let me make Oct 13th reservations, it says not available.

I suppose a lot of people are trying to buy tickets.

I tested it this morning to buy 4 tickets in December.

They probably only allow reservations 30 days in advance. Try again tomorrow.

There's not really anything to see there. But you can have a view if the site from the Winte Gardn.

I just tried again for a date in December. Randomly chose Dec. 18th. The first time slots are sold out but plenty more available that day. I chose 4 tickets. You have the option of making a donation to the memorial fund. You are asked if you want to receive the tix by email or pick up at the kiosk. You are asked for the names of the visitors and each visitor needs to show a picture ID.

I backed out of the process at that point but tickets in Dec. are definitely available. I didn't check November.

The site is up and running.

Please note, on that site, that if you or a family member were closely involved in the events of Sept. 11, there's a phone number you should call to arrange a visit and receive tickets.

I'm somewhat relieved to see the site will now be referred to as the "9/11 Memorial" rather than 'Ground Zero'.

Doug, what did you mean by this? "There's not really anything to see there. But you can have a view if the site from the Winte Gardn."

Thanks so much, Doug and starrs. That's really helpful.

bigbomoho, the site seems to be working fine for me - I could reserve tickets later in October yesterday, just not for the dates we'll be there (it lets me pick the date, but says "not available" for every time slot).

I admit that this is an experience I, as a New Yorker, never wish to have. So I don't really understand the allure of making this "pilgrimage". It's just not something that ever interests me. So I must confess a little lack of interest in the whole industry of "Ground Zero" and "9/11" that a lot of people don't really understand. But that's just me. I tend to be a little dismissive about it, to be honest.

But what I meant specifically is that there is nothing to see in the vicinity of the 9/11 Memorial Plaza except for the plaza itself and the ensuing construction. You can see almost nothing from ground level, and there's no real museum. The only view I know of is from the Winter Garden, so that seems the most logical place to go if you can't get timed entry tickets.

jent that's what it also says for every time slot I put in for Oct 13th, but now that I have the info from Doug and starrs, at lease we will be able to view the memorial.
