Where can I buy nice, stylish summer dresses?

Coming to NYC tomorrow for 2 days. I need some pretty summer dresses (sleeveless and stylish) for business dinners I am attending in Scottsdale w/ hubby in May - any suggestions for stores or boutiques? I am willing to spend around $200 per dress. I usually shop at Ann Taylor. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps it would be helpful if you could tell us where you might be staying. Would you be walking or would you want to take a cab?

I will be staying by Rockefeller Center.

Well Ann Taylor is a good idea and all over Manhattan. Lord & Taylor (5th & 38th st.) is another idea. Maybe check their website to see if anything appeals to you but they should have a pretty big selection.

Loehmann's on 7th ave & 17th st. would be worth checking (maybe go there first) for a bargain. Might find some nice things in the Back Room. Find Outlet is another bargain place. Not sure which of their locations would be better, Chelsea or Nolita.

If you want something a bit trendier, you could try Scoop (several locations)

H & M is right at Rockefeller Center. Quality may not be high, but prices and styles can be great. Worth a try. Saks is also right there, but frankly, I don't see anything for $200. Maybe have a look at their dresses here

and decide if it's worth a trip. I'd try the discount places first.

At $200 a dress, I think you might find a few choices at Saks 5th Avenue.
Aside from the excellent suggestions already made. :)

Bolton's on Madison and 50s
Macy's - huge selection and every designer/tons of sales.
Brooks Brothers (upstairs) on Fifth Ave.
Sax Fifth Avenue on Fifth Ave.
Liz Clairborne on Fifth Ave.
Filene's Basement on Sixth and 17th Street -- have to look carefully but usually can find something.

I would certainly try Lord and Taylor on 5th Avenue. Whenever I need a dress, it is the first store I go to. If you are unsuccessful there, you can walk to Macy's at 34th and Broadway. This is a huge store so be sure to hit several floors besides just the actual dress department. The smaller designer departments often have dresses. Bloomingdales is on 59th and Lexington. You can take the subway from Macy's. Enjoy your shopping!

I would suggest Daffy's across the street from Macy's on 6th and 34th. There is usually an excellent selection of dresses for the spring, since Easter is just around the corner.

Since Casual Corner is gone, there is a chain that took over the 2 locations Adrienne Vivanti (sp?) at 6th and 45th and the big store on the corner of 3rd and 42nd. There is an Ann Taylor down the street as well as a Boltons and a few stores down is Banana Republic all on 42nd St.

Banana Republic and J. Crew both have stores in the Rockefeller Center area.

You should be able to find something -- maybe sundresses -- at Bendel's. They have a nice dress area.

Bloomingdale's.
