I'll probably get a laugh out of this from people who have never visited Buffalo New York before but I'm a native of Buffalo and most people who move here (usually reluctantly) or visit here come away believing that we are some of the nicest, most friendly people in the country. I can't tell you how many people I've met who dread coming here and then refuse to move when they're asked to transfer years later. It's because of the people they've met here.

Bruce, by the way, I understand there are several Buffalo related restaurants/bars in DC where all our transplants hang out to eat Buffalo food and catch Bills games - check one out sometime!

Boulder, Colorado. I visited there and vowed to move there after college...however, certain other vows have kept me here in the Midwest.

I really have to disagree with the people who recommended Minneapolis. I lived there for 14 years. It was, overall, not a terrific experience and I was a fool to stay as long as I did. While it's true that there are many people there who were "transplanted" from other areas, most are either native or are from little farming communities in Wisconsin, Iowa, or the Dakotas. There's nothing wrong with that, except that their mentality is very narrow-minded and they're innately suspicious of "outsiders." I'm not suggesting that I never met any nice people while I lived there, but overall I felt like a fish out of water, like I just didn't fit in. Leaving there was the best thing I ever did for myself, and my entire life turned around within six months after I did. Just one person's experience, for what it's worth! <BR> <BR>P.S.: I now live in the Washington, DC metro area and have met both nice and rude people here--just like anywhere else you'd go! <BR>

Being from Boston, I am sure that any city/state has more polite and friendly people...ouch! I like Boston but not for the people. Wyoming was by far the most friendly state in the union I have been in. I am not sure I would relocate there, but the people are nice. Madison, WI is also great. NYC, to many people's surprise, has a very helpful bunch of folks in it. New Orleans is also a great town. Every bartender greats you with a, "what will you have, baby." In Boston, it takes me 15 minutes to actually even have the bartender notice that I am waiting, with no one else around!
