When to visit Kauai?
I REALLY want to go to Kauai, however my husband and I normally vacation in Feb. as this is a slow time for our business but after reading some posts here and through other sources I'm concerned about the weather there at the that time of year because I'd like to stay in the north/east area. So is there a good time/season to visit?

when we went to Kauai it was April and we had both sunshine and rain showers (and fog up in Waimea Canyon). after three trips to the islands of Hawaii i can honestly say that even in the rain (last year most of the week that we happened to be on Maui was rainy/cloudy)it is wonderful!! there is so much beauty that the rain only enhances.

Hi, I spend the month of February on Kauai each year. I stay in the Poipu area, and have to say that the weather has been pretty good for me the last 10 years or so. Sure there are a few rainy or overcast days, but I don't recall a bad stretch of over 3 or 4 days for a long time. There is always a chance of rain on Kauai, but I never let it stop me or change my plans to go in February because of it. I love the North shore but the weather there is far more likely to be rainy, so I elect to go where there is a better chance of sun. It's Hawaii, and paradise, so even a few bad days cannot dampen one's spirit. I would say "go" in a heartbeat.

I adore Kauai, however after spending 12-15 thru 12-23 last year, I am returning in August to hang at a beach house and explore condo's with a real estate agent. It is beautiful all year round. However, I missed swimming in my favorite North shore spots. The surf really kicks up in the winter months. That said, given the choice, I'd go May/September......less family vacation hoopla, excellent conditions.

The advantage to going in Feb. is the whales---seeing the whales for us was a highlight of our trip. We actually had a great condo for whale watching---on a cliff, right on the water---I could hardly get dressed in the morning--we'd see 10-15 whales every morning. We live in an area that gets lots of rain and we consider it a real problem when it rains on our vacation---we don't go for the "can't have rainbows if you don't have rain" theory. I did worry about going in Feb.--we stayed in Poipu--south shores of the islands have more sunshine in winter than the north.
The nice thing about Kauai when we were there was that you could follow the sun. We would watch the weather forecasts the night before and would plan our next day---if it was forecast to be clear on the northshore, we headed north.
If you have read any recent trip reports from people who visited Kauai in Nov., they just had an unusual amount of rainfall---who knows when it is going to rain.
If you really want ot see Kauai, I wouldn't hesitate to visit in Feb.
