When to purchase tickets?
Planning a trip to NYC for February, and wondering about when/where to buy tickets. Is there a certain day or time that websites put out new fares? I usually use travelocity or kayak for searching, is there another I should try? Just wondering when I should bite the bullet and buy the tickets.

kayak.com sometimes will give a chart that shows the history of fares between 2 cities and also which are the cheapest dates in a month if your dates are flexible. It's said that new fares are posted Tues. midnight/Wed. morning but fares change all the time. From where are you traveling?

Thanks, I've never seen the history thing on kayak, I'll have to look for it. I'll be flying out of MBS airport in Michigan, or Flint if the savings are significant enough.

Perhaps the reason you've not seen the history thing is b/c they don't do it for flights in/out of your city. I checked and it's not there. Probably used for more popular/bigger city pairs.
I see some very reasonable prices ($175-210) for Feb. both non-stop from Flint and also from MBS. Unless you've gotten prices lower than that, I wouldn't wait to book if you know you're coming. |
Thanks for the help. I just booked flights from MBS for about $175 pp before the taxes and fees. I never thought I would find such a good fare out of that airport.

Glad you found your fare! Here's the website with the bar graphs of rates on each day: http://www.skyscanner.net/wings.asp you need to click on the 'month' tab to get the graphs.
Thought you might want to use it for your next trip! Enjoy NYC! |
