when to leave for airport

I have a 9:00 am flight from Laguardia on thur the 28th. what time do i need to get a taxi from a times square hotel.

Depends on the airline, of course. If you are checking bags, then definitely 7, a bit later if you aren't checking bags. The traffic in Midtown rises dramatically after 7:30, so you need to be on the bridge or in the tunnel by then.

sorry - but I have to disagree. I'm sure your airline is telling you to be at the airport a minimum of 2 hours in advance. That doesn't mean leaving Manhattan 2 hrs ahead at 0700 - but in the check in line at the airport.

I would be in the taxi and on my way by 0600 -- 0630 at the very latest.

I would pick the middle ground. I'd be in a cab, on the way to the airport by 6:30-6:45. It's an extremely quick trip to Laguardia, and even if you have to wait in line at security, you'll still get to your gate with plenty of time. I know the airport "tells" you to be there two hours early, but that's a guideline, not a commandment.

There's a significance difference whether you have check luggage and whether you'll have checked-in online.

Thanks for the advice. I just double checked my itinerary and my flight is actually at 10:05 so if i leave the hotel at 7:30 i should be okay, right

I would leave at 6:30 - closer to 6 if you have to check luggage. You MAY have a long wait at the gate - but - better than missing your flight.

(Traffic in NYC can get heavey before 7am - esp on the holiday week when a lot of people are trekking into the city with kids for a full day of sightseeing/shopping.)

I would leave the hotel three hours ahead, one hour for travel to be at LGA two hours ahead of departure.

You never know about the traffic, or if there will be an accident, disabled vehicle, or how long the check-in and security lines will be.

An extra hour or two with nothing to do is better than worrying about catching your flight - and way better than missing it.

Usually, it's only 1/2 hour to LGA and we breeze through check-in and security. But, we never count on it.
