When should I book a hotel room in NYC for cheapest rates in March?
I am visiting NYC the second weekend in March and looking for a large room/small suite in a 4* hotel midtown. The best deals I can get at the moment are $280-350.Should I delay making reservations until say February in the hope of a better rate?

Go ahead and make the reservation. If you find something better later, you can cancell the first reservation.

I think this must be a culture thing-if you make a reservation in the UK,it is because you genuinely intend to take it up-not as insurance. Are there no penalties for cancellation? What if you have given your credit card details to pay a deposit?

Don't worry about it, just check the hotel's cancellation policy first. Most hotels allow cancellations up to a certain number of weeks/days prior to your stay with no charge to your credit card. Totally acceptable and done often.
If you want 4 star accommodations, grab them and continue shopping.

Marlena

Thanks Marlena-I will.
But do you think there will be cheaper deals in February?
|
February is probably cheaper, but perhaps steady business traveler business prevents 4 star hotels for the need to discount. Do check rates every so often...it's so easy to do online.

Good luck,
Marlena

Sure, you may get a better deal February, but as has been said already, you can always cancel if you have an earlier reservation. It's rare when you can't cancel up to 48 or even 24 hours before.
Just keep this in mind: New York has the highest percentage for hotel usage for any city in the country!
