Murders may be up but how many have been in the French Quarter?

Zero.

Never. I make two to three trips per month for business and have stayed in all the hotels and eaten at what seems like most of the top restaurants. It's stiffling hot from May thru September. January may be too cold. Go for the mid-March timeframe and hope for good weather.

Not trying to start a riot here, but Dan, do you have a breakdown for the city's geographical distribution of homicides? How many are in the CBD? How many are in _______ ? Et cetera?

No breakdown but I don't think ANY have been in the Quarter in a long time. My point is that people need to look at the big picture: crimes tend to cluster in certain drug-infested areas and the average visitor won't see it.

We have way too many murders, too many drugs and too few cops. That's a civic problem I hope our mayor can figure out! At the same time, the Quarter is still relatively safe throughout the year.

TripleSec, I believe if you're really interested the info is on the web... I'm just not that motivated to retrieve it.

HEY! That's my line!
Curious if you had something at hand. I can Google the rest of it. Relevance. Exiting JazzFest two yrs ago, a 60-yo JazzFest Regular was senselessly killed for his near-empty wallet by a 20-yo &$#@%! We had used another exit gate.

Anyway, most cities have those same plaques you mentioned; my current city included. Townships, are a bit different in my ltd experience.

Thanks for the replies! My husband and I have some time to figure out something definative, but I always like to get feedback. I would really like him to get to experience New Orleans because it is such a neat eclectic place.

I've enjoyed my visits to New Orleans in December and January; the temperatures ranged from mid 50s F to low 70s F when I went. Coming from Quebec, I was happy to not need scarves/hats/gloves and found the weather perfect for exploring the city by foot! I don't know if I'd like it when it gets hot & muggy. My first day there (a December 27th) at 73F, I remember thinking the city felt a bit humid & sticky and had a bit of what I call "swamp odor". The lower temp made it comfortable but I felt glad not to be there at a hotter date, but others may like that.
