When is spring break in 07?

I'm trying to plan a trip in the spring and want to avoid traveling during spring break if possible. When is it in your area? (I don't know where I'm going yet.) I don't have kids so I have no clue what week it usually is.

Thanks!

Spring Break is anytime between end of February and Mid April. Some school somewhere is breaking.

From Presidents' Day (third Monday in Feb.) to late April, somebody will be on break. Typically, mid-March to early April are the heaviest, in my experience. Many schools base their vacations around Easter, which is April 8 in 2007.

Thanks! Well, that narrows it down a bit. ha ha!

College semester system schools (as opposed to quarter systems like Ohio St- which are much fewer in number)- have their Spring breaks in '07 primarily during March 5-10 week, or one week later. The April dates are almost all High Schools or varying grammar schools this year, with a later Easter.

I don't think any have a Feb. date at all in the coming year.

If you are thinking of a college age vacation destination, avoid March 5-17, absolutely.

Central VA is on vacation the week of Easter. I would plan to go late April if you want to still travel in spring, but want to avoid the crowds. I have found that private schools generally give a winter break in Feb or March, public schools go around the Easter time and Colleges are off in March. That is just my experience.
Mid Feb to Mid April will be spring break.

HI--If you are trying to avoid families travelling, that is usually either the week before or after Easter, unless it is New England when it is the 3rd wk, give or take, usually the week in which April 19 falls, the original date of Patriot's Day (in '07, the 15th to 22nd)...However, if it is the college revelers you want to avoid, JJ5's dates are good, but I would extend them out one more week to March 24th, basically meaning that some college and/or colleges are on spring break during almost the entire month of March, but this only matters if you are going somewhere popular w/them.

March is also the time when the private schools have breaks, but that is not a huge number of people, when considered nationally.

Do a search of "spring break 2007" on disboards.com. The folks on the Disney boards are always keeping track of everyone's spring breaks.

Different at different counties but near us:
School 3/25-4/1
College 3/24 - 3/31

Maybe I'll just wait until May to be safe... :)

Thanks for the good info, everyone!

Early May would probably be safe. Some schools are out as early as May 24th.

GoTravel Oct 23rd, 2006 07:36 AM

Anytime after April 16th should be safe.

As previously mentioned, I don't know whether you're interested in areas that would be frequented by families or by college age kids. FWIW, both of our public school districts (grade school and high school in Illinois) always take the last week in March. Depending on how things fall, break can go into the first couple of days of April. Looks like the actual school days off are the 26th through the 30th this year. My daughter's private college in MA is on break March 17th to the 25th.

As indicated, a lots depends on which age group you're trying to avoid, and where you're going. In Massachusetts, most public-school kids are off school the week of the third Monday in April, and Disney World is a popular destination.

But my niece in Florida got out of school on May 12 last year. And later in May the weather might start to get uncomfortable -- late April/early May seems safest!

The 2nd & 3rd weeks of March are the heaviest for college. You don't want to be in Panama City Beach, for example, during those weeks.

Most schools today select spring break in the middle of the semester, so that is usually mid-March. However, if Easter is early, sometimes the break is the week before Easter, so the school doesn't have to give up extra class days for Easterweekend (typically Friday and Monday). Easter 2007 in 8 April, so I would expect most schools would use mid-March. Mid-May is the most common time for semesters to end, so if spring break runs too late it makes a short return to the end of the semester. That translates into less student attention at the end of the semester.
