When is hurricane season in Hawaii?

Aloha,
Have just found great rates on all airlines from Atlanta to Honolulu.....$495.60-$550.00 rt!! Is this too good to be true?
When is hurricane season?
BTW, yesterday afternoon I had visions of Kauai because in about 40 minutes, I saw 5 rainbows. Talk about beautiful! One of the rainbows was a double...have never seen this in my life.
.((r)).((r)).((r))
Margo, you are slipping on the countdown!!..((y))

Kal Jun 19th, 2003 06:59 AM

icee,
Hurricane Iniki was on 9-11-1992!
Spooky, yah?
I think Iwa was in Nov and Nina was in Nov Dec soooo. I think one hit the islands in July?

Margot is busy counting her "winnings" before they come to "Fruit-ition".:-"

We're around 193 depending on any airfare deals our TA can find us.

Aloooohaaaa
Hang loose!
((Y))((N))
So Happy It's Thursday!
Kal

A search of this site reveals that Hawaii's Hurricane Season is June to Sept. I can confirm the great roundtrip rates from NYC to HNL ~$600, and on at least 2 major airlines, on one day one flight came up as $555. Mahalo and good Hunting! $-)

hmmm Jun 19th, 2003 07:23 AM

According to Hawaii Magazine (July/August 2003)only 2 hurricanes have hit since 1959 (Dot): Iniki on 9-11-92 (We were on Maui trying to get to Kauai-we didn't), and, Iwa on November 23, 1982.

Suzie Jun 19th, 2003 07:31 AM

Hey hmmmm, my sister was also on Maui when Iniki hit. They didn't really have a good time. :'( Took them 10 1/2 years to go back.

JohnD Jun 19th, 2003 07:47 AM

Correction from www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl/cphc/pages/pr4.html Hawaii's hurricane season June 1 - November 30 (every year). #o

Suzie Jun 19th, 2003 08:16 AM

I'd never let the hurricane season thing bother me. 4 of the 6 times I've gone there have been during hurricane season. We had great weather. I did not go to Hawaii in 1982 or 1992. But did go in 1981 and 1983. Guess I just missed Iwa!!! =-O

islandmom Jun 19th, 2003 04:57 PM

It's like tornados - spring and fall. You never can tell though. Been here 10 years and haven't had a BAD storm yet.

Rusty Jun 19th, 2003 05:10 PM

Are all these little smiley faces and rainbows and other stuff necessary?

margot55 Jun 19th, 2003 05:14 PM

Rusty -
The answer to your question is...((Y))
(but please feel free to not use them, if that is your wish).

they are called "emoticons" and I suspect they are part of a larger conspiracy to tie up cyberspace.

Rusty Jun 20th, 2003 03:39 AM

Ban emoticons from cyberspace !! they are a more serious threat to the world than SARS and global warming !!!

Can you guys please tell me how to find those emoticons? I got one on one of my messages by accident by typing a smile, but I don't know how to find the other ones.

Meesthare Jun 20th, 2003 09:32 AM

Thanks, JohnD!

Rusty Jun 20th, 2003 09:44 AM

There are only smiley faces at that web page. Where are the rainbows and others ?

iceeu2 Jun 20th, 2003 09:51 AM

Margot used up all the rainbows!!
((r))....oops, there's another ((Y))

JohnD Jun 20th, 2003 10:04 AM

Rusty, it takes time for those icons to download, but they are there. A shortcut is to move your mouse arrow over a rainbow in someone's post for example, and then later in your post, type in the exact text that appears. A rainbow is 2 beginning parentheses then "r" then 2 closing parentheses. ((r))

margot55 Jun 20th, 2003 11:00 AM

Glad to have you aboard, Rusty - now...show us what you've got...;)

Rusty Jun 20th, 2003 11:11 AM

I BEG YOUR PARDON ????

Rusty Jun 20th, 2003 11:22 AM

JohnD, when I move the pointer over a rainbow I don't get nuthin' !!!

margot55 Jun 20th, 2003 12:14 PM

Rusty - "show us what you've got" means in terms of emoticons, silly boy!!!

JohnD Jun 20th, 2003 12:47 PM

Randy try looking at your keyboard where the number keys are above qwertyuiop. Hit shift and 9 for beginning parenthesis. Hit shift and 9 again. Type r. Hit shift and 0 (zero not o) for close parenthesis. Hit shift and 0 again.
That's a rainbow in code. It only appears as a rainbow when you preview or post your reply in the Fodor's window. It does not work outside of Fodor's.((r))
