What's your traveler IQ

http://www.travelpod.com/traveler-iq

Mine was 104 on the first try. Would have been higher but I had some difficulty with some of the African capitals.

J_Correa Feb 14th, 2008 02:18 PM

I tried this one before - it is fun, but I got a little frustrated because map is so small that it is really hard to place the flag accurately. With small countries, I had a hard time getting the flag within the borders of the country - LOL.

kennythecook Feb 14th, 2008 03:12 PM

That was fun but it made me feel dumb. Scored 111 and didn't make it past the 10th level. Maybe I'll get an atlas and try again sometime. The world has changed since I last studied.

SAnParis Feb 14th, 2008 03:19 PM

I hit a 99 but I agree w/J Correa, + East Timor killed me. The map does need to be bigger. On the middle Eastern ones, how close could you be ?

Anonymous Feb 14th, 2008 04:38 PM

Tenth level and a score of 100 here. Totally frustrated by the teensy size of the map on my laptop screen, I was hundreds of km off on places that I definitely knew!

TMWeddle Feb 14th, 2008 04:52 PM

This is the same or very near as on Trip Advisor - there I've got a score of 125.

Ryan Feb 14th, 2008 04:54 PM

114, I got as high as level 10. I was doing good until I put one county on the wrong side of Africa in the last round.

Marginal Feb 14th, 2008 05:06 PM

I got to Level 12 and 135, whew.

garybear Feb 14th, 2008 11:20 PM

128, Level 11 on my first try. Blew it on Cocos Island, Australia.

bkluvsNola Feb 15th, 2008 05:45 AM

112 on second try - I found it hard to get any closer than 50 km to places that I knew exactly. It's also hard to click on Pacific islands that are not visible on the map - even the general vicinity is bound to be hundreds of kilometers off.

ncounty Feb 19th, 2008 04:36 PM

100. Africa and the south pacific/indonesia threw me.

TTess Feb 19th, 2008 05:00 PM

18202, here. Not too bad but I agree, the map needs to be larger.

Little_Man Feb 19th, 2008 06:12 PM

99, ouch.

Grcxx3 Feb 19th, 2008 06:30 PM

I usually get to Level 10 - but then those South American central African countries get me!

Binthair Feb 19th, 2008 08:22 PM

112.

Suelynne Feb 19th, 2008 09:12 PM

112, but the one that got me was Turkmenistan - I knew where it was but spent too long trying to focus on it exactly and was timed out. I would have been better off just clicking on the general area [as I did with reasonable success in West Africa!]

LLindaC Feb 20th, 2008 07:32 AM

106 on tripadvisor. After that, I downloaded a map of Africa and have been studying it this week. I do great on Europe, Carib, USA, Canada but man, Africa sinks me every time on level 10!

lvk Feb 20th, 2008 08:08 AM

For those who want more practice identifying countries while being timed, try National Geographic's Geospy website. My 7th grader had to identify all 53 African countries in 3 minutes. I did it with him and got up to 51 after a week of trying. :) He got all 53.

I agree that that map on travelpod is too small, and my mouse-clicking accuracy leaves something to be desired, also. Level 10, 111

traveller1959 Feb 20th, 2008 08:53 AM

118.

I probably ruined my score by one timeout and a few completely wrong guesses.

michelleNYC Feb 20th, 2008 09:05 AM

My final score was 166,845. That was fun!

TTess Feb 20th, 2008 10:02 AM

Wow, it looks like I go to the head of the class. ;;) I didn't even have to polish any apples.

Keith Feb 20th, 2008 11:36 AM

What changed the IQ results there?

I took the test shortly after it appeard on Tripadvisor and had an IQ of around 138. A few weeks later it fell to 114, even though I hadn't done the test again.

A couple of days later, it bounced back to the original score for one day, then dropped back to 114 and has been there for several weeks.

mlgb Feb 20th, 2008 01:31 PM

My score was 538,461, IQ 132.

Anyone know if there is another level above 12?

It's the Russian cities out in the middle of Siberia and the islands that aren't on the map that frustrate me. I think the closest distance I got was a few in the 20km range but I think that's luck. 50km is more typical if you know the location.

ckwald Feb 20th, 2008 01:41 PM

I am a turnip.

adventureseeker Feb 20th, 2008 02:54 PM

This is fun and addicting.

Thx for sharing.

curiouser Feb 20th, 2008 09:30 PM

Man, you guys rock. I can get over 100 but I'm cracking under the pressure!

Howie234 Feb 21st, 2008 02:50 AM

I got a 122, level 11. A lot of fun!!!

vakantie Feb 21st, 2008 04:54 AM

I'm starting to develop carpal tunnel syndrome :0 Man, that map is small... First time I got 53somethingthousand points but it wouldnt give me an IQ and the second time I got 122. Fun link, tnx for posting.

vakantie Feb 21st, 2008 05:26 AM

ok, I'm addicted...I keep getting 122, I can't get past level 11, this where i start getting the 'this earth you know that, right' comments :(

thit_cho Feb 21st, 2008 06:18 AM

134

I landed within a few km of Thimpu and Libreville.

Keith Feb 25th, 2008 06:21 AM

One flaw with that program. It calculates distances based on their map, not on a globe, giving distances over the real maximum of around 12,000 miles

In the unlikely event that you click fairly close to a mid Pacific location, but on the wrong side of the map. They will tell you that you were off by nearly 24,000 miles:-)

lvk Feb 25th, 2008 06:52 AM

Should I be proud that I clicked within 16km of the Hofbräuhaus? :) Then I blew it when the screen said Papua, New Guinea and my brain read Equatorial Guinea. :(

thit_cho Feb 25th, 2008 08:17 AM

Points 600,275
Score 135

Spivonious Feb 25th, 2008 08:48 AM

111 on the first try, didn't make it past level 10. Does anyone really keep track of all the new countries in Africa?

karameli Feb 25th, 2008 09:38 AM

Yippee, got a 135! Wouldn't let me advance past level 12 though, even though I beat the "score to advance" (just barely!).

rm_mn Feb 26th, 2008 05:17 AM

"For those who want more practice identifying countries while being timed, try National Geographic's Geospy website. My 7th grader had to identify all 53 African countries in 3 minutes."

I have to ask why teachers require this. I had to do something similar and find that after 35 years the country borders have changed, the names of the countries and even city names have changed. Why did I go through all that memorization?

Keith Feb 26th, 2008 08:29 AM

Because that is where the education is supposed to start, not where it should end.
