Heidi is Heiki - not too far off...

Thanks Galle38 - an interesting factoid!

Here's something else interesting (or useless info depending on your perspective) - Early this morning (Wed.) at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date was:

01:02:03, 04/05/06

That won't ever happen again in our lifetimes.

I think the people without Hawaiian names should just make up something. I'm sure they won't mind. :)

So funny, my husband's and mine are the exact same Hawaiian name (Keli), even though our American names are completely different.

Mine is Anela!

evab Apr 6th, 2006 07:37 AM

Mine is Iwa and I hate that it is linked to a pretty devatating hurricane from a decade or so ago (late 80s I think). Cool site

Just like the cheesy (imported) shell lei that are given to visitors when they are in Hawai`i, this "find your Hawaiian name" is strictly for tourists.

A traditional Hawaiian name is given to a child by the chosen family member (usually father or grandmother) -- after careful (and often prolonged) consideration. Names are based on dreams, visions, signs, or something special at the child's birth. True Hawaiian names -- when translated -- tell a story about that person.

For example, my Hawaiian musician friend known by many as Dennis Kamakahi, has a much longer name:
DENNIS DAVID KAHEKILIMAMAOIKALANIKEHA KAMAKAHI
That long middle name translates to "The Distant Thunder In The Highest Heavens" -- which was the sound which greeted his birth.

So enjoy the "Hawaiian names" website, but realize that it's just for fun, 'kay? 8-)

palapa......perfect!

jinxiejo Apr 6th, 2006 09:08 AM

My hawaiian name is " Palapala" but I already knew that. I bought a mug in Kauai with my name on it.

michelleNYC Apr 6th, 2006 09:24 AM

I kinda like "Mikala"....

Jolie Apr 6th, 2006 10:53 AM

My name's not there either :(

But I'm guessing it's "Nani."
