What's Your Favorite NYC Day-Spa

We are going to NYC this Fall, and are wondering if there are any great day-spas places to go to, for a massage or facial.
I know that there's an Aveda spa there, and was wondering if anyone has used it?
Any suggestions are really aprreciated!
Thanks!

A nice place to go is Body Essentials (right of Herald Square) It's nice and small-which means you'll get the attention you deserve. Took my mom there for Mother's Day last year and she didn;t want to leave! Check out their website @ www.bodyessentials.com. Aveda is a commercial spa and you may not get the same attention. Hope you enjoy your trip to NY- (P.S.- make sure you dress appropriately for the weather because it does get cold here in the Fall!)

There are tons of wonderful day spas in NYC. I have been to the Aveda spa once and really enjoyed it - didn't find lacking in personal attention at all. Bliss is... blissful. You can check out their website at www.blissspa.com - going for a pedicure tomorrow! They have two locations, one in Soho and one on E. 57th I think. I believe the Soho location has more services. Haven is another nice little spa down in Soho, on Mercer Street. They have some interesting treatments, like a chocolate wrap which I have not been brave enough to try - although I have enjoyed pedicures, waxes, and facials there. If you're on the Upper East Side, Karen Wu day spa is a nice surprise and also a little cheaper than the others I mentioned. Helena Rubenstein in Soho - heard great things but haven't been. Check out newyork.citysearch.com for reviews, they have a beauty section. And be sure to make reservations far in advance especially if you choose Bliss.

L

Heather--

Hands down, the best spa in NYC is Avon Centre, at Trump Tower. Totally luxurious without being intimidating or snooty.

As the previous poster mentionned, Helena Rubenstein, down in SoHo is amazing, and that would be my choice for 2nd best.

I know Bliss gets a lot of press, but all my friends that have gone there really didn't have good things to say. They felt like they were in a factory are were being rushed in and rushed out.

Just my opinion...make sure you reserve appointment WELL in advance.

Enjoy..dee.
Thanks for the suggestions. Does anyone have opinions on Oasis?(I think they are near Union Square).

Thanks.

Heather,

I've been to Oasis. Yes, it is near Union Square--I want to say 16th Street, but I'm not sure. 16th or 17th...

Anyway, I HATED my massage there. I had a male masseur, and let's just say I was really stressed out trying to keep my towel covering the areas I needed covered!!

There is a fabulous restaurant right next to Oasis, however, called Candela. If you are looking for a spa downtown, go to SoHo (either Helena Rubinstein-my 2nd fave in the city, or Haven, which is on Mercer Street) and then head over to Candela's. A little pricey, but worth it :)

Good luck...dee.

I used to go to Oasis on a regular basis when I lived in the neighborhood and LOVED it. Always had fabulous messages from a woman named Lucy. The atmosphere is very relaxing as you walk down the hall to the massage rooms, dark and lined with candles. The only problem is that is changing room is small and sort of reminds me like a gym locker room. I agree about Candela. Stop there for a glass of wine before your massage.

I've been to the Stone Spa a couple of times for a massage and it was wonderful. I got a gift certificate at my bridal shower a couple years ago and loved it so much I had to go back and I even got my husband to go too. They have a website as well- I think it's stonespa.com. The masseur massages you with hot/warm stones from head to toe. The building it's located in is not much to look at, but the actual spa is pretty nice and it's affordable.

I've also been to Elizabeth Arden for a facial and that was pretty nice too. Located in midtown (I think 55th and 5th or something like that- they also have a website), they give you tea while you change into your robe and are waiting to be called into a room.

I have been researching the same thing and checked the April 23 edition of New York Magazine which is their annual best of New York magazine and for facials they named Erbe as the best. Prices for a facial and massage is $150.00. They are in SOHO.Not on the internet. Number is 800 432 erbe. Does anyone else have any feedback on this? Also they were listed in Fodor's NYC book.
