What's your favorite Cirque du Soleil show?

We are doing a fair amount of traveling this summer and have the possibility of going to one of a number of the Cirque du Soleil shows, depending on the city and when we're there, etc.

We've seen Quidam but no other. If you have seen several and could recommend only one, which would you pick?

I've seen Quidam, Mystere, O and Nouba. O is my favorite.

MLM, are you going anywhere near Las Vegas? Does "O" play anywhere other than Las Vegas?

CR May 21st, 2002 09:17 AM

O only plays @ the Bellagio in Vegas. That's a permanent show - a special theatre was built for it.

"O" is the most expensive production ever staged and as the previous poster said is in a custom built theatre in the Bellagio hotel. it is one of a kind, too expensive to be staged elsewhere.

Mystere at Treasure Island in Vegas

Mystere @ Mirage

I've seen O twice and Mystere twice. Just two nights apart one time. There is no comparison. O wins, hands down!!!!

Anyone see Dralion? Reviews? It's coming to Portland OR next month and I was thinking of going.

Mina May 21st, 2002 08:47 PM

Saw Dralion and O. O is truly nifty. Dralion seemed like an amateur performance next to it.

Saw Dralion in Philly last fall. Superb show. Loved the big-top atmosphere of the tent. Quite an engineering marvel. Saw Allegrea (sp?)in Boloxi when it was at the Beau Rivage and loved it, too. That was in a specially-built theater and was a bit more technologically gifted, but I think I actually enjoyed the tent experience more.

I'd grab whatever chance you have to see any Cirque show you can.

The travelling Cirque shows are simply amateurish compared to "O". You have to see "O" to understand why.
Even the performers in the travelling shows are "minor leaguers" compared to the major league performers in "O" and Mystere.
The travelling shows are where many of these performers prove themselves before being promoted.

Hi and thanks all. Unfortunately, "O" is not one of the possibilities for us. I'm sure it's very polished but it's also fun to have the "barnstorming" sense you get under a tent, while they still manage to create interesting illusions -- at least that was the case w/Quidam.

Is Dralion the best of the non-"O" rest?
