What's there to do but beaches?

My fiance and are I getting married in July 2000 - we want to go to a place that you can lay on the beach and do beach stuff for a few days, but then we want to go hiking and see scenery. Is Hawaii the best place to do this? If not, where? We are looking at every option. Thanks!
- First Time Fodorian
How about San Diego, California?

I haven't been yet myself, but from what I've read on this forum, Hawaii sound like exactly what you're looking for.

If you live on the east coast and don't want to fly that far, try posting the same question on the Caribbean forum.

LOTS to do in the Islands! My favorite destination. Biking down from the volcano. Kayaking. Skin or scuba diving. Shopping. Cruises - lots of hikes. Driving to Hana for the scenery and adventure. We found we couldn't fit in everything there is to do and relax on the beaches too.

Maui is the Hawaiian island with the best compromise: lots of stuff to do besides sit on the beach, but not super-crowded like Waikiki (Honolulu). Maui has fabulous scenery, mountains, rain forest, dry areas, wet areas, snorkeling, gorgeous resorts, gourmet restaurants, more sights to see than you can possibly fit into a couple weeks.

LOTS more info about Maui restaurants, hotels, activities, sights, etc, at this web site:
http://www.mauihawaii.org
(note it ends in org, not com)
Jon

Beaches, hiking, scenery...any Hawaiian island will fill the bill! Aloha.
