Whats the best way to JFK from Philly?
 
I live in Wilmington and generally fly out of Philly. Am looking at an international flight to BKK. Looks like I can get a great direct flight from JFK, but I can't seem to find any connections from PHL to JFK. Any advice for cheapest/easiest way to get to JFK? (it's a 10am flight)

The fastest way is to take Amtrak. I don't know if there's an Amtrak stop in Wilmington, but I do know SEPTA (www.septa.org) has a line that runs from Wilmington to 30th St. Station. You can take Amtrak from there.

If you give yourself plenty of time, a cheaper option is to take the R7 line from Philly to Trenton, then take NJ Transit from Trenton to Penn Station. I don't know how to get to JFK from there, so maybe someone else can help you there.

There is an Amtrak station in Wilmington as you probably know since you live there! I would imagine that you can get a train to JFK from Penn Station in NY, but I don't know for sure. Check out the JFK website - they probably have info.

Amtrak to NY Penn. LIRR to Jamaica Station. AirTrain to terminal (Terminal 1 for Thai).

The cheapest way would probably be SEPTA train to Penn Station and then E Train subway from Penn Station to Jamaica Queens and AirTrain to JFK. But rkkwan's reco, Amtrak to LIRR to AirTrain is much more practical (especially with luggage)and has fewer changes.

Reading your post again though, a 10am departure for an int'l flight means you'd need to be at JFK by 8am. Sounds like it would require coming the night before. Is it still worth it if you add a night at a hotel?

Thanks everyone. I didn't think it would be this time consuming/costly. Seams the cheapest to take NJ transit, but then have weigh in the time/inconvenience of the extra drive and transfers. One way car service from Wilmington to JFK is $324 for 2 of us.

I thought I was overlooking something obviously inexpensieve and direct- I guess I wasn't.
